From an “old” soccer parent.
Two ways to address: 1. Have a short private conversation at a practice or game. “John, please don’t yell advice to my Andy. He is thinking about what coach Mike is telling him and it’s confusing to him.” If Andy ever scores please go nuts. Thanks. 2. Send a text to the club director and cc the coach. Parent John is yelling instructions to the kids and it’s confusing them. Coach Mike is on the other side of the field and likely can’t hear Parent John. Would you please let Parent John know he is not to give instructions to the kids? Thanks. Cc Coach Mike. It is not too long before this behavior stops in soccer and baseball - the two youth sports I know pretty well. The reality is that the kids play so many games that it is simply stupid to care about the outcome of any game. Every parent who has kids who played through college will confirm this. The reality is that the only games where a win/loss matters would be State Championship playoffs in high school, and maybe a game that will get a team to a major club tournament championship. Say - to the finals at Disney. But what about xyz game? No one cares. Really. My daughter played high level club soccer starting at u9. (She played 4 years in college). For 3 years she was on a team put together to try and win a USYSA national championship just prior to the formation of the ECNL which eventually took the wind out of the USYSA sails. We all started out yelling more than we should and caring more than we should about league standings and tournament wins/losses. By about 11 though you start to realize that the kids are playing a zillion games. What is important is how they are improving as players. And - are they staying healthy? Between u9 and finishing high school she would have played in something around 600 club games and another 50 or so high school games. And out of all of those - winning or losing, maybe, mattered in 20 or so. |

It was dumpy dads screaming at teen girls to make fun of their hair and clothing. A rotund aging man screaming at girls. |
