Interesting! Well, if the future Queen Consort can wear a pearl choker, why shouldn’t her mother I suppose? I’m surprised by the choice but her mother has always dressed very appropriately at other events. She’s got to be what, close to 70? I suppose she can pull off a statement necklace like that. I probably would have worn a simpler hat in that instance but I’m sure she was advised on what to wear.

Nothing quite says “America” like wearing a headband reminiscent of Disney Mouse Ears to the Queen’s funeral.

A black scarf head tie would have looked a lot better while remaining in the same genre if that’s what she wanted.

Remember when Hillary wouldn’t give up the black headband look?

Jill needs to update her Farah Fawcett hair and replace the stylist who told her to wear that headband.

Agree and I voted for Biden. I think she needs a new stylist because this happens to her a lot.

Jill looks like a woman who became a grandmother at 45 and is on the hunt for her fourth husband.

I agree, either necklace or floral bedizened hat. Teetering into Dynasty territory.

Yes, painful to admit, but yes.

The necklace is fine. The hat is a little too Derby Day for me.

She did look beautiful and regal but dress was nothing special.

That was probably on purpose, you know to keep the attention away from her.

Uh, she's been wearing a lot of enormous jewelry this week for someone who doesn't want the attention on her. I think she's doing some queen-in-waiting drag. Not a criticism -- that's what she is and she and William will likely have very large roles under Charles reign because of his age and the fact that Kate is much better liked by the public than Camilla (though people have softened towards her a bit... but they still prefer Kate).

I didn't get the sense Kate was trying to keep attention off herself at all. I sense that she was fully aware of the attention on her, her husband, and her children and that she was very careful to deliver the right messages.

MM, meanwhile, did seem to be trying to fade into the background. And for good reason -- the press and commentary about her is critical no matter what, so I sense her goal was to be as unassuming as possible and let others have the spotlight. She is at a point with the British press (and many people) where she can do no right.

I think she’s probably just uncomfortable that she had to face the RF after that ridiculous interview with The Cut, and just ahead of the release of Harry’s memoirs. And let’s not forget about Oprah. She is probably mortified. As she should be. Both of them, the pair.

I'm trying to figure out what is going on with the buttons on her jacket, too.

I hate to say it, but I think MM really should have covered her arms. I actually think that about a lot of clothing she wears as official engagements. Cover those arms at a royal family funeral, lady!

Are button covers back?

My mother always said that children should never be dressed in black, but then again, we were not royals.

Your mother isn't the boss

I would tell you to inform her of that, but she is dead.

I am 60 and I followed your mother’s (and mine) advice. My daughter did not wear black growing up, and even now in her 20s, she does so sparingly. My brainwashing was a success! I would have put Charlotte in black with a contrast color collar. I also don’t care for her hat, but I am old and like little girls to look like Frances Hodgkin Burnett’s Sara Crewe.

The Princess of Wales is not making her own clothing and jewelry selections. She would have had a dresser and would have been advised of specific pieces of jewelry that are appropriate given their historical significance to Queen Elizabeth’s reign. She listens to those around her which is part of the reason that she never puts a foot wrong. She didn’t wake up this morning and decide to put on that pearl choker, trust me.

She wore the same jewelry she wore to the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral.
