It is a done deal.

I live in the neighborhood and I'd LOVE the Commanders back in RFK. Would jazz up that part of Capitol Hill a lot.

me too, but this is not the socially acceptable thing to say I do hope that they encourage metro and leave space to keep the RFK playing fields and bike/ped access to the trails.

Saying it doesn't make it so

They’re going to have to fall for it because RTO has fizzled and the District needs the income.

The stadium will cost the city money, not provide income. They will be on the hook for infrastructure bonds and improvements even if the team nominally funds the stadium and most teams get a very large cut of the tax revenue generated by the stadium as part of their deal

It’s a done deal. There’s bipartisan support. Move on.

That may or may not be true, but it doesn't mean we have to like it or stop complaining about it.

Many of you have a short memory, but opposition to the Nats Stadium giveaway is the issue that propelled Fenty to the Mayor's office.

Someone will step up to make hay of this and perhaps rid us of Bowser once and for all.

Probably not -- the Commanders are far more popular than the not-yet-arrived Nationals were when that happened, and at any rate, the city's changed enough that I'm not sure opposing a stadium deal is a surefire winner. And Bowser already gave D.C. United a stadium with no major public pushback. (Yes, yes, I know, the team paid for building the facility, but the city kicked in about half the cost's worth in infrastructure improvements and land. I've had D.C. United season tickets for 20 years but I still opposed that. Sports teams should pay their own way.) I wouldn't bet much that saying no to the Dan Snyder-free Commanders is the key to taking power in the Wilson Building.

It’s a shame the RFK stadium is not maximized to its fullest potential. It could be a Part-time youth sports plex.

The DC TV market has 2.5 million households. The Richmond, VA TV market has 600k households. You do the math. They are not moving to Richmond. They were however on course for a move to NOVA until Dan Snyder screwed it up being a greedy liar. I would expect that a NOVA move will still happen but it will take a little more time to negotiate. I suspect the choice is basically Fairfax or Loudon with subsidy or Dumfries with no subsidy.

I don’t want them anywhere near Fairfax. I hope that groups are forming to fight this.

NoVA’s entire commonwealth congressional delegation doesn’t support it. They’re moving back to DC. It’s done.

And then Fenty, who also opposed the school takeover before becoming mayor, also embraced the stadium.

The fact is, the stadium as been a huge financial success and the bonds will be paid off years in advance.

City will have to pay for infrastructure either way. If the owners commit to funding the stadium and it is a compact, urban stadium, then I would be ok with it.

Properly accounted for, stadiums are a huge waste of public resources. This has been demonstrated time and time again. Stop shilling for billionaires.

For stadiums, the city should make the team pay for infrastructure.

Only the lowest of low information voters aren’t aware of the facts on this by now, but there are so many of them.

It’s even worse here when the teams can play three jurisdictions off one another. I’ve reached the point where im almost excited to see how badly DC gets swindled.

Everyone absolutely knows that stadiums are a rip off. I don't think DC will give away the store for this. We don't need it.

DC financed Nats Park, but it's been so successful that it will be paid off 11 years early. DC paid for a part of Audi Field, but not most of it. Abe Pollen paid 100% of Capital One arena.

DC has not been fleeced on stadiums. They've made pretty good deals.
