Many of you have a short memory, but opposition to the Nats Stadium giveaway is the issue that propelled Fenty to the Mayor's office. Someone will step up to make hay of this and perhaps rid us of Bowser once and for all.
Probably not -- the Commanders are far more popular than the not-yet-arrived Nationals were when that happened, and at any rate, the city's changed enough that I'm not sure opposing a stadium deal is a surefire winner. And Bowser already gave D.C. United a stadium with no major public pushback. (Yes, yes, I know, the team paid for building the facility, but the city kicked in about half the cost's worth in infrastructure improvements and land. I've had D.C. United season tickets for 20 years but I still opposed that. Sports teams should pay their own way.) I wouldn't bet much that saying no to the Dan Snyder-free Commanders is the key to taking power in the Wilson Building.
