Progressivism has gone overboard in protecting the rights of people who commit crime, especially violent crime. What about the rights of the victims and potential victims, the right of all of us to feel safe in our communities. I want to vote for someone who hasn't lost sight of that, and who isn't afraid of being cancelled or smeared for saying he will try to do something about it. That is an idea and a principle, just one the progressive candidates don't like.

I mean, you’re just making my point for me. You’re scared, and you’ve decided that Goulet is the only acceptable answer, despite the fact that you don’t/can’t cite a single policy or proposal he’s offered for making life in the city better. Nor, interestingly, are you holding Muriel Bowser—distinctly not a progressive but the most powerful person in the city for the last eight years—accountable for the apparent hellscape the city has become.

I’m not trying to convince you to vote for Frumin; it’s clear that will never happen. I just find it fascinating what’s motivating support for Goulet.

What is motivating support for Goulet is that he not part of the groupthink that has contributed to and tolerated the status quo.

You have it backwards. He and Bowser are the same on this issue. She has been Mayor for 8 years and it has deteriorated. That isn't group think, that is HER accountability and you are buying into it.

If only Nadeau and Allen could set 100% of the agenda, DC would be a progressive utopia. Unfortunately that Bowser has ruined it and is solely responsible for this mess.

Honestly, I would've considered goulet - but the dark money makes me pretty uncomfortable. Probably vote Thomas instead. He doesn't have much 'online' visibility, but a bunch of neighbors all are in his camp and he seems to be pretty well aligned with Bowser - which is a good thing in our book.

So you won’t vote for Bowser either? Same “dark money” is backing her too.

The inconsistant thought process in this thread is why our politics nationally and locally are the way they are.

Voting for Thomas is voting for Bowser, which is fine if you like the rising crime and agency mismanagement that has taken place over the last 8 years.

Goulet is the same.

Monte is a Pence republican in sheeps clothing.

It is not like we didn't know there would be hundreds of thousands of outside money thrown into this race. Dropping out 2/3s of the way through early voting seems both ego-saving and performative. Bergmann, who also dropped out, has asked for his signs back (on twitter) so it is clear this performance is so that he can run again when Frumin is too old or Goulet hasn't delivered.

This is what I find funny about the 'save foxhall' folk. Mayoral control of the school is why we are where we are, this is why the Lab school will not be a public school. You may like it or not like it, but with Mayoral control - the buck stops at Bowser. You don't like the current school construction plan? You need to vote out the mayor and anyone aligned with her. If you are voting for Goulet, you should be voting for R/T White too. The inconsistency is kinda funny. But I'm pretty sure most Goulet supports are Bowser supports (at least that is what the lawn sign in my neighborhood indicate)

It’s interesting how insular people become just by talking only to people like them. The reality is, like it or not, most [insert name] supporters are also Bowser supporters because she’s widely popular and that’s why she’s going to win another term and win easily.

I am not saying that it’s good or bad, it just is. And it will be true even the most progressive candidates.

LOL. Why doesn’t Bergmann go out and get the signs himself?

Probably because he has to work at his day job as a Democratic media consultant and will pick up what he can after work.

That's being kind to Monte. Remember a Pence Republican saved the Republic in January 2021 from the Trumpy coup.

Speaking of Trump, Finley is the candidate strongly backed by Ward/CP Smart Growth.

This is a wild assertion (worm-brain?) given Finley's platform of affordable housing. He even has policy ideas on racial equity that *gasp* seem pretty good and the antithesis to Trumpublicans.

Thomas stopped by my house in C Park recently and I was impressed with him. My fear is that he doesn't have a real chance now so I will vote for Goulet instead. But I hope Thomas sticks around in DC politics.

Did Thomas explain to you that the last 3 jobs he's held is because he's friends with the Mayor?

And although he's a very nice person, he was terrible as an ANC commissioner.

No but what’s your point? The last 4-5 jobs I’ve had are from connections too. So what?
