A guy with the wholehearted support of the most radical, fringe elements of city government will not provide an important buttress against the forces of irresponsibility in this city.

It happens slow, then fast. But the fights over zoning and density will be pretty meaningless in a couple years of continued negative population growth. If there is a recession right now, DC could be in serious trouble if private sector investment dries up in the city and what little investment there is continues apace in Arlington and Fairfax at a time when the Federal government will be shrinking COVID deficits. It’s a perfect storm for a city that has considers itself “recession proof”. Maybe not this time.

Frumin is a Cheh progressive. He will be like her legislatively, but be better on community engagement. The reason the progressives arae lining up is because Goulet lied about his relationship with DFER and frankly, I am not sure why anyone would want to support such an openly hostile candidate.

Goulet hasn't worked in the private sector. That is actually a negative for me but I would still rather vote for the numbers wonk from the Williams administration than add to the Council's progressive bloc and ensure that DC continues down its merry SF-emulating way of tent encampments and high crime.

Thank you for articulating that. I was sitting trying to figure out why his understanding of budgets has anything to do with life in Ward 3. He's a nimby activist who has had a tiny little career and just wants to boost his ego.

I really wanted to vote Goulet but found he has little connection with the ward and the schools and too much connection with outside interests seeking to control DC policy by funding elections. We already have Cong’l Republicans sticking their noses into our business. We don’t need a council member in someone’s pocket on top of that.

He was in the Grey Administration and has otherwise been on the Council side of the budget for the most part.

Why is it he doesn't have the endorsement of one sitting councilmember?

It’s interesting that the people supporting Goulet can only conjure up dark visions of homelessness and crime as reasons why he should be elected. No one can cite an idea, a principle, a policy proposal, ANYTHING positive in support of his candidacy. It’s all just terror. It’s very telling.

I don't have to conjure up visions of tent cities and violent crime because they are all around us in DC. I get notifications of gunshots and stabbings nearly daily on my Ring camera app, set to a two-mile radius around my house in Ward 3. Progressivism has gone overboard in protecting the rights of people who commit crime, especially violent crime. What about the rights of the victims and potential victims, the right of all of us to feel safe in our communities. I want to vote for someone who hasn't lost sight of that, and who isn't afraid of being cancelled or smeared for saying he will try to do something about it. That is an idea and a principle, just one the progressive candidates don't like.

Bowser and Goulet are cut from the same cloth on this issue. Bowser has been mayor for 8 years and it has gotten worse under her leadership. I am not sure why SHE isn't being held accountable and why Goulet gets a pass on supporting more of the same that isn't working.
