I may be a rare one here, but I support charter schools in DC and elsewhere. The studies, and the emptiness of DCPS outside Ward 3, show charter schools are effective with sufficient oversight.
But I don't like outside groups bigfooting DC elections. I can't make a rule about how much spending is too much. DFER is way beyond whatever rule I could think of. DC gets messed with by Congress and others all the time, we don't need DFER getting involved too. If we want charter schools, we'll make them! |
DFER is Democrats in name only. Among their backers are the Walton family, the Koch brothers and Rupert Murdoch. |
Why would they back any Republicans in DC? They want to back a winner because they want to influence policy. Of course they back Dems in DC. While holding their noses, no doubt. |
What’s your “conservative estimate” based on? You’re just guessing? |
The average cost for mailers x the number of Goulet mailers I've received. |
DFER has sent numerous texts and has paid canvasars walking across the Ward in support of Goulet. That is not cheap either. |
You are still not able to estimate anything. For example, for your denominator you have no idea what they are printing and distributing to other parts of the city for Bowser and Mendelson. Aside from mailers/door hangers, you also have no idea what else they are doing. So your “conservative estimate” is worse than a bad guess. Just making numbers up. |
Uh, you don't need to know about the rest of the city. The W3 count is straightforward, other candidates have posted the cost per mailer in W3 to cover registered voters. Most of us can count and the distribution of mailers seems to be pretty uniform within households in W3. Why do we assume that? well, most of us have friends that live in other parts of ward 3, and the sheer number of mailers comes up in common conversation. Man you folks are super defensive for having so much money supporting you. Do you not live here? |
According to Matt Frumin, DFER told him they were dropping $250K into the Ward 3 race. DFER is one of three major dark money groups spending a lot of money in this election. All three groups are supporting the same three candidates. So far DFER has spent about 60% of what the three groups have spent combined. Extrapolating that gives over $400k. |
What's the "denominator" in the calculation of average cost x number? |
Lol, they are just screaming into the void. I wonder if charter schools teach multiplication to their boosters? |
This is a drop in a bucket compared to what development companies, their service providers, and industry-affiliated astroturf groups are putting into DC races. |
What are the issues DFER is championing? I’d prefer the $ wasn’t in but now that it is, what’s it buying? Don’t say influence, I really mean the issues |
I'm sure we'll find out if their candidates are elected. |
Fairly uninformed voter here.
Why would anyone in Ward 3 be pro-charter schools? That’s enough to make me never vote for Goulet. I wasn’t 100% on Frumin but if the only other real option is pro- charter schools, I have no choice. |
