The threat to the immunocompromised (an extremely broad category) has also been inflated in the media:

Kids have only been back for a few days. It takes time for #s to build. Check back in 2-3 weeks.

Chemo patient here, I agree with you actually! But if I contract covid my (hopefully) life-prolonging treatments have to be suspended for 20 days, non negotiable. So we aren’t all in the same situation.

How do they know about cases if no one is testing?

Spring break just ended two days ago for many kids. A few I know are still on spring break. It's about 2 weeks too early to declare anything.

A surge in cases and hospitalizations is inevitable, but we'll weather it, and we'll weather many other surges in the next few years. I hope you can all see your way to masking indoors again when numbers spike. Thank you doing your part. Enjoy your lives.

Yes, that is the point. "Immunocompromised" is a very broad label, and chemo or transplant patients are certainly in a precarious situation (as they have been prior to Covid since a simple cold can be a serious threat to them), but they represent a tiny minority of those who today declare themselves at "high risk" from Covid despite vaccines.

I wish you the best in your recovery.

Death and taxes are inevitable. A surge in hospitalizations is not.

Maybe if hospitalizations get to a critical level. If it's only case numbers spiking, it should be enough for you to wear a well-fitted N95, and you don't need others to put on a cloth mask for you.

Please. We’ve heard “2 weeks” a million times before. Give it up already.

I know most of them tested at home and didn't report it to the county so I think we have no idea how many people have Covid right now. Also, with cases being milder (for some), many dismiss it and don't bother testing.

With masks going away (people aren't wearing them in even places where it's mandatory) I think we are pretty screwed. If nothing else, Americans have shown how selfish they are and that they don't really care if they infect their own families - they aren't going to deal with any inconvenience.

You can’t hide the things that really matter: hospitalization and deaths. And those look fine. It's not 2020 anymore; in a post-vaccine world, it doesn't make sense to focus on case counts.

Actually getting Covid matters to some of us.

Public health decisions aren’t based off of the irrational fears of a select few. Thankfully.

A number of the most vulnerable, seniors and those with health conditions and those who refuse to vaccinate, have already had covid and recovered or not. Now, the virus has mutated to become more transmissible and much less lethal. The pandemic is over.

A new variant could be worse, and the pandemic could return. But right now, the pandemic is over.

Its not over.

Yes, actually, it is. I know that's hard for you and that your mask has become your identity, but cheer up. I'm sure there is another crisis on the horizon that you can personalize in a similar way.

This is effing DCUM gold. I applaud you sir/madam.

I am vaxxed, boosted, and mask everywhere and still got covid. It’s ridiculous.

Were you hospitalized? Do you still have symptoms 4 months later? My brother and SIL got OG covid back in January 2021 and lost their sense of smell. It started coming back 6 months later, and I'm not sure they've fully recovered. Mostly they have.

I'm not saying it was either spring break (way too soon to see that) or taking off masks. But you can't really say "no change".

Well there were cycles when everyone was masked in MoCo too. And still a large percentage of people masked IME.
