Did people just gain a ton of weight over the last 2 years?

My appearance is the least interesting thing about me. I guess it’s a good screening opportunity as well.

If someone pays too much attention to their appearance, they usually don't have a very interesting life (since most of their time is spent on their appearance)! I have nothing in common with the "let's see how fast we can burn my husband's money" crowd, who are usually primping and preening, or at the country club, or some other vapid thing.

I think men who need the trophy wives want to feel valued, and have their own pile of insecurity and issues (which a trophy wife will never fix).

It is one thing to want to take care of oneself, it's another thing to be blowing your husband's money on all sorts of beauty treatments (the lashes, the brows, etc.) each month.

OP, if you are at your own personal ideal weight, that should be enough. I have put on a few during covid, and I am just trying to get back into the mindset of what it was before covid times.

Maybe, but that doesn't explain normal weight people gaining 20, 30, 40 lbs.

And regarding obesity - we've know it's been a risk factor for nearly 2 years. If someone really cared about their health and not having a hard time with covid, they would have lost weight. You can lose a significant amount of weight in 2 years, from outdoor or at-home workouts. If you're obese and *still* complaining about your risk situation, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

When I went back to work, quite a few of my coworkers were completely unrecognizable. When you gain 50+ lbs even your voice changes. It boggles my mind how you can gain weight like that but I assume it's deep depression or mental illness?

I lost a ton but I can't eat when I'm stressed. Between covid and Ukraine (I have family in that part of the world) I have to force myself to eat. I don't really exercise but I'm very active.

This is alarming. What area do you live/work where several people you know gained 50+ lbs?

I don't think anyone I know (family, friends, neighbors, coworkers) gained much recognizable weight. But I live in an area where people walk a lot and are pretty active.

You lose weight by eating less. Everyone has time for that.


Yes, eat less more more. Or eat less than you burn. That said, I agree that losing weight is not a matter of having enough time.
