Did people just gain a ton of weight over the last 2 years?

Holy Toledo. We went out for the first time in a long time for a st paddy's day beer. Everyone just seemed so......fat. Like really obese, not just overweight. I know Americans are fat, but either we haven't been around people in a reallyong time, or people have just gotten massive. It is crazy how much weight Americans pack onto their frames. I mean there were women there who were probably 5'1" -5'3" and easily over 170 lbs. Nearly every dude seemed to be well over 200 lbs. How did everyone get so fat? Was it COVID that made it worse? It is truly shocking to see the size of people if you watch movies from the 1970s and 80s. People were way healthier back then.

Nah, you've just holed up in a house for two years and forgot what your local community looked like. Everyone on TV is extremely fit, personable, and below BMI - they have to be to get the roles in Hollywood.

So yes, America is fat. But also...you forgot what it was like to interact with people outside your own nuclear family of (I'm assuming) less fat people.

I did for sure

I gained weight from depression and PTSD, but at least I didn't become as ugly as OP is.

Twenty pounds for me. The pandemic has been bad for people’s mental health and their physical health.

Watching movies in the 70's and 80's is hardly reality. People in movies today are generally very fit. It is the movies.

Americans have been having an obesity crisis for many years now. Surely you remember this, are aware of this or know this.

I really can't stand fat shamer's though. What other people weigh is none of your business. It is nothing to do with health and everything to do with your critical judgement of other people.

I bet those other people are way more fun than you. Enjoying themselves rather than gawking at the waistlines around them. Fat shamers are so superficial and boring.

I am fit by the way but I don't think I am better than anyone else because of that.

I need to get back into a gym, because I just cannot do this at home.

I definitely gained weight. My nightly routing in the beginning of COVID to get out of the house was to go to a 24/7 gas station at midnight and buy a chocolate bar or 2. Let's just say I'm paying for it now in cardio.

Beer? Irish food? Go to the sushi bar for charity marathon day. People will look thinner.

Yep. I gained on top of weight that a stressful period Pre pandemic had crept up. I feel much better when I exercise, but I’m also in this inert energy/emotional energy protection mode. Clawing my way out of what’s most likely depression and like so many, collective trauma. I’m in a supportive role in healthcare and tbh it’s been tough finding a resource for myself after giving all day. This cup is not just empty/ the well is dry. So yeah, sometimes comfort food (but it’s organic 🤣), and not enough extra movement on a consistent basis - fatter. And I’m short af so nowhere to hide the extra hummus

This is not a secret. Stress eating and drinking, gyms closed, all that sourdough ... Yes, people gained weight. Part of the RTO conversation is having to buy new clothes. I'm surprised you missed it.
