Youngkin DOES need to learn to "read the room" - most people in NOVA do wear masks regardless of mandates.
And yes, masks can indeed be effective. Studies show that a properly worn N95 or KN95 can protect you for hours if you're next to someone who is contagious with covid, whereas if you're unmasked you only have a few minutes before you're likely exposed. |
And, the nut who screamed at him was NOT wearing an N95 mask. |
It was terribly disrespectful of him in terms of the people working at that store. Shame on him for being such a snob that he thinks low wage workers don't matter. |
The hysterical woman heckling and yelling at the Governor was wearing an ineffective cloth mask, which studies have shown not to work. So much for dem’s knowledge of science. |
Yeah, because he didn't wear a mask... |
And now truth about covid today: it is less of a risk, according to official and reliable government data, than many typical daily activities we engage in without fear. Per a recent NYT article: "Once you get a booster, your risk of getting severely ill from Covid is tiny. It is quite small even if you are older or have health problems. The average weekly chance that a boosted person died of Covid was about one in a million during October and November (the most recent available C.D.C. data). That risk is not zero, but it is not far from it. The chance that an average American will die in a car crash this week is significantly higher — about 2.4 per million. So is the average weekly death rate from influenza and pneumonia — about three per million. With a booster shot, Covid resembles other respiratory illnesses that have been around for years. " The Biden administration is blowing the messaging and losing the narrative. The only - and I mean only - number that matters is a numerator over a denominator that defines your likelihood of dying from covid. And if you're fully boosted, that number is now virtually 0. Everything else is noise...mask quality, ventilation, social distancing, etc etc. It mattered early on, but not anymore. Cases don't matter, except as they might 'overwhelm' hospitals...though we cannot live under that threat forever. Every credible expert outside of the administration is calling for rapid reduction of restrictions, starting with masks. I truly hope Biden's experts get control of the narrative - the economy is booming and the vaccines work, but no one feels better because we are still being told to hunker down. It's bad politics, and inconsistent with the science and facts on the ground. And yes, it is why Youngkin won - democrats never offered an off ramp. Mask forever, school shutdowns no big deal, and so on. Should we rip the masks off kids now while omicron is still a threat? No. But where was/is the offramp metrics from Duran? APS? Arlington County? Democratic controlled Richmond? Scream at me if you want, but remember: Science is real. Wearing a mask is now political theater. |
+1 I had to laugh at the video of the round table when all the previously masked people were unmasked, talking, etc. Just like in restaurants - apparently, you are terribly susceptible to Covid, except when eating and drinking (while talking and laughing, naturally). Not mask theater at all. ![]() Good for Gov. Youngkin. There is no mask mandate in VA, nor should there be. He did nothing wrong at all. |
+100 I would be all for that for people like the PP. |
![]() What a joke. Those “low-wage workers” aren’t under any mask mandates either. Most employees in our local Giant go without masks. Once again - there is no mask mandate in VA. And those “low wage workers” were some of the very first people to receive vaccines. Do you understand what the word “optional” means?? DP |
+1,000,000 I completely agree with you. I’m fully vaxxed, got Covid anyway, and have recovered. The ONLY reason I continue to wear a mask in stores is quite honestly to keep the crazy LWNJs from confronting me. I have no interest in dealing with the unhinged. If it wasn’t for these nutters, I’d have no problem unmasking. The majority of elderly people I see out and about are unmasked - and I’m a healthy person who is far younger than they are. Mask theater has been unmasked for what it is. |
Oh please. Your side is even worse on the science front - they don't want any masks of any kind, even though studies have proven that properly worn N95s and KN95s DO significantly cut down the spread. |
No one wants to see Youngkin when they are trying to buy food. |
I'm in Fairfax County and I know masks are not required indoors. Sorry if I missed it (I skimmed through this thread), but does the City of Alexandria require indoor masking? Does this Safeway require customers to mask?
I'm vaccinated, boosted, and wear a mask when I go to the grocery store. I'm not a fan of Youngkin. I didn't vote for him, but if Alexandria and/or this Safeway doesn't require masking then I think her reaction went overboard. I do think it would have been respectful for him to be masked. If required, then yes, of course he definitely should have been wearing a mask. |
NP. I love how he looks away and cowers in the cashier’s area, getting in that small space with a masked cashier like he’s never been to a grocery store. |
OMG, sounds like this author needs to learn to "read the room," it doesn't matter what the science says or the statistics say, what is important is that they comply. |
