I am so pissed.

To add: applied Arts & Sciences

I’m a professor at UMD, a liberal arts department. This is bonkers to me. There is no way that some of the students I have in intro courses could have these high school grades and stats. Some of them can barely write a coherent paragraph.

Not even a Spring admit?

No. I am so upset. I am going to appeal but I realize it will have no impact. I don't know what the issue is. She could have tried test optional, maybe, but what's so wrong with 1400? 720 verbal. This process is a joke.

I am so sorry. My DC was accepted but not that much better stats. 33 ACT, 3.8uw. I’m sorry but how does an in-state applicant with 720 verbal applying to Arts and Sciences not get Freshman Connection?? I would be so pissed too. You pay taxes to Maryland, kid excels in school, over 92%tile test scores. Really sucks. So sorry.

Thank you! That's what I'm saying. I thought she would get spring admit. And yes, the taxes are hella high in this state and it would be nice to get something for it.

My kid got in, but doesn't see anything about honors college. Do they divvy these up by hs at all? Her stats are higher than most of the honors people on this thread, and she is nmsf, has national awards and excellent ECs. Is there a way to appeal that?

I know this is trifling compared to those dealing with rejection. We've had our fair share of that too. Any info welcome.

Wait, what? No! Don't do that! I'm sorry you are upset but really?

Why should I not appeal?

Because YOU weren't denied. You didn't even apply. Your kid did. If they want to appeal, that's one thing (I guess) but you have no grounds.

OK OK, the kid will appeal. Sorry!

Example: 4.28 Weighted MCPS, 1320, accepted (note if spring entry). Please note if applied to a competitive program (CS, Engineering, Honors College, etc.)

Good luck!

MCPS, 3.88 uw, 4.5 w, 33 ACT, no hooks. Smith Business, C-Community (whatever that is?). Can anyone share about the Community, or is that everyone?

I'm so sorry, PP.

This may have been the toughest year ever for UMD applications. The volume of applications has exploded at so many flagships all over the U.S.

But being a legacy, with such good stats really hurts.

There are other good schools in Maryland!! Did she apply to SMCM or UMDBC? Both great schools!!

Your DC will be fine, OP! We worry so much about our kids, but they usually land on their feet, no matter where they go to college.

In with Scholars. MCPS, 4.0iw, 4.6w, 1410. Psych major.
Anonymous
In to engineering, 4.7 weighted, 14 APs, all 5s, 1520, excellent ecs. Did not get into honors college and they have her misclassified as out of state when clearly in state, so can’t even see if there is financial aid. Also wondering if she didn’t get into honors college bc they think she’s out of state. So irritating.

Does anyone know how many applications UMDCP received this year? Last year they received 50,000 applications.
What's their acceptance rate this year?
Anyone know? Will they release this info?
Anonymous
Denied. We knew it was a reach. Oh well…congrats to everyone else. It’s a great school.
