Why do some folks send Xmas cards so late?

+1

Agree with OP. How hard is it to send them on time?

I don’t understand this at all. We receive plenty of cards in late Dec and even, sometimes, a few after Christmas. Why would the ones received on the 10th mean any more than those received later? It’s a thoughtful gesture from friends or family, why make it any more serious than that?

My point was none of them mean anything. They’re pointless whether you get them before Christmas or after. So if you’re not going to get them out by Christmas just let it go. Nobody will notice.

Your logic is off. If they are truly pointless then it is irrelevant whether someone sends them on time or not.

OP I get all of that. I am talking 30 years in a row one person and another 25 years in a row. We actually only mailed our two weeks ago. We literally went on CVS Website on a Sunday, ordered on line and picked up two hours later and mailed. I had years with issues and went out later. But these folks every year. Single, newlyweds, with kids. Empty nesters.

I like the cards. But I literally am taking down Xmas tree when they come. Why not just send Happy New Years cards?

Then don't put it up on Thanksgiving. Many people leave it up until after Ephiphany.

I ask as a few folks year after year mail it so late.

I also go to NY to see family most years and some cousins will be at Xmas with us and when I get back home to the DMV the card is there. Why mail it so late that you see me in person at Xmas before I get the card? I get folks are busy we all been there. But I had one person mail literally a card that is a Christmas card I get it after Xmas every year the last 30 years!! I usually have taken down cards by then so awkward.

One year my wife and I had a lot of things going on Illness, death of my mother and paired down list and did not mail the late people as we assumed only sending us a card since we sent one to them. Guess what they still came. Usually day after Xmas.

Why do they do it? Two are now literally empty nesters and retired. So they have time.

Christmas cards are for Christmas on December 25

If your birthday were on July 15, would you expect birthday cards on July 8?

Christmas is not a day, it's a season. Dec. 24 - Jan. 6. Your ignorance of this fact is not something to advertise.

Who said I was ignorant of the season. The reason I said the cards were meant for December 25 is that is the beginning of the Christmas season. It may end for some on the Epiphany, January 6, but fir those in the Russian Orthodox Rite, it ends January 7, and for those in the Caldean Rite, January 8.

I have to say OP is a new animal to me. A man who cares deeply about receiving Xmas cards late because it messes up his holiday decor? So much so that he would post on DCUM? Who checks the postmark of all incoming cards?

I have so many visions of OP now, none of them remotely attractive, but all entertaining. I am positive a Netflix series starring OP could be made.

According to history I will get 10-12 more from late people. They literally most nail them Xmas eve every year.

And two or three of late crowd live in Europe. I can see the postmark of like 12-22 stamped in Germany.

I mean at that point why not just call me on phone or text me?

And the folks actually seeing me on Xmas eve or Xmas why not just give it to me in person? Why mail it at all?

Since you celebrate Xmas rather than Christmas, you ate within your right to tell these people exactly when you want your Xmas cards. Think
Of them as short order cooks who will prepare your eggs scrambled or poached.

Oh, this is going straight to the Hallmark channel.

If you read “passive aggressive” into late arriving Christmas cards I truly think you would benefit from a hobby or two, in addition to some therapy to work on yourself.

I have ADHD and hate doing Christmas cards. They used to always be late. Now I don’t do them.

No, because it would be delightfully snarky which Hallmark can't manage.

I'm not a grinch, but holiday cards after December 25th aren't as nice. After December 31, they go straight in the trash after I open them. I love displaying cards and like it when they arrive 2 weeks before Christmas.

I have this pet peeve with birthday cards too. 90% of cards for me or my kids arrive after their birthday! Whereas I put up a birthday banner for the week before their birthday (I have little kids) and would like to leave the cards displayed on our island that week.

Wow, OP. I have ADHD and more important things to do. Does that satisfy you?

:

I truly wonder how people like you and OP manage to get through your days.

The levels of miserable I'm exposed to on this board shouldn't surprise me anymore, but somehow every year there's something new. First it was hating on Christmas "family updates" included in cards, then hating the photo cards, now hating cards that don't come in time to serve as your decor, and deciding that your pissy attitude means *the sender* is passive aggressive? I really hope I don't know anyone like you in real life.

Merry Christmas ya filthy animals.

You are uneducated about Christmas. Christmas ***STARTS ON*** December 25, and is then celebrated for 12 days. So the last day of Christmas is January 6. You're welcome for the lesson.

OP is a Boomer who has too much time on his hands because under work from home, he has nothing to do and he’s not a producer. He misses being in the office where he could stroll around and bug the crap out of the actual producers and harass the women. OP is this accurate?
