Yep, I call them "crimes of opportunity". I live in San Francisco and almost daily when I'm walking around downtown, tell someone "hey, your backpack is wide open." I don't hang my bag on the back of a chair unless there is no way anyone can walk behind me. I don't own a car anymore, but when I did (in another state) I always put my purse or bag on the floor of the passenger seat, not on the seat itself, and always took everything out of the car when I got out. |

He's a former cop and a security guard-- I applaud the attempt to humanize him but assaults against cops have dramatically escalated and I'm not sure if people are sympathetic toward them anymore. |
Well I can assure you that normal people are, especially a POC cop who was trying to defend a business. If you dont feel any empathy at this time it may be time for some deep introspection and a personal check in to see what's gone left in you. Good luck. |
This isn't a real thing. California adjusted their threshold above which theft is a felony, but it's not even out of line with other states. Setting that threshold at approximately $1000 is very common (both higher and lower thresholds are out there too), and both felony and misdemeanor theft is criminal. |
I personally support the police and feel empathy for this man, I'm saying that people should expect a rush of public support for this man because the zeitgeist seems to be viewing the thieves as Jean Valjean up against this Inspector Jevert. |
Shouldn't |
Well that's a problem. I do think the tide is shifting. At least my friends in LA are almost uniformly outraged at what's going on. They literally had to put out a citywide mandate because so many stores are being smashed and grabbed. When youre quite literally afraid of walking down the street and being shot for any reason because it's happening all over, people start being very critical of these "the poor criminals!" characterizations. |
| He is a schmuck. |
Now Seth's on DCUM. Poor guy. |
Mentally unwell fits. Seth Rogen doesn’t care about DCUM. You aren’t that important or interesting. |
Not PP but neither is Seth, lol. Why are you so triggered that no one likes him? Seth did you get bored of getting verbally curb stomped on twitter so you came here? |
That's kind of sad, because it is difficult for the government to reverse cuts like that. LAPD took a $150M "defund the police" cut, and resignations and retirements are up by over 20% each. So the remaining officers are working overtime to make up for the losses, but are being given, like, IOUs for their overtime because the city can't pay. It's really difficult to reverse the effects of that, even if they put the funding back, because they need to be able to get funded, attract and train new talent, and start working normally again and that's going to take a while. This is sad both for the residents of LA who apparently have buyers remorse and also sad for the police who quit their jobs because they believed their services were no longer appreciated. |
You … think this viciously personal attack is appropriate? However dumb Rogen is for his behavior, the nasty ad hominem attacks are worse. This is not a response anyone should celebrate. If you are impressed by it, your parents raised you wrong. |
DP but if you're a rich and famous person and you DM.yoir critics with expletive laden messages, you're opening the door to some serious hostility. |
