Well that's a problem. I do think the tide is shifting.  At least my friends in LA are almost uniformly outraged at what's going on. They literally had to put out a citywide mandate because so many stores are being smashed and grabbed.  When youre quite literally afraid of walking down the street and being shot for any reason because it's happening all over, people start being very critical of these "the poor criminals!" characterizations. That's kind of sad, because it is difficult for the government to reverse cuts like that. LAPD took a $150M "defund the police" cut, and resignations and retirements are up by over 20% each. So the remaining officers are working overtime to make up for the losses, but are being given, like, IOUs for their overtime because the city can't pay. It's really difficult to reverse the effects of that, even if they put the funding back, because they need to be able to get funded, attract and train new talent, and start working normally again and that's going to take a while.  This is sad both for the residents of LA who apparently have buyers remorse and also sad for the police who quit their jobs because they believed their services were no longer appreciated.  [/quote]
