How did you get turned on to DCUM?

I first came here around 2004-05, when I first started thinking about the logistics of becoming pregnant and being a parent in DC. I had no close friends with kids and didn't know anything about nannies versus daycare, how much things cost, etc. And soon I was drawn in.

I remember so well the first really mean thread I read here. It began with an innocuous title like, "How many men have you slept with?" And it evolved into a sick flame war between a woman who had slept with 35 men (the "slut") and a woman who never had sex until her wedding night (the "virgin"). It went on for page after page, becoming meaner and meaner... And yet it was so strangely compelling... The insults were so awful, yet so articulate... But then one of the women told the other that she should commit suicide and die. That was the first time I ever saw Jeff delete an entire thread.

And now my oldest son is a high school freshman, and I'm still here every day.
