Me too... my baby is graduating high school. Where did the time go?? 😠|
| Googling for information on different neighborhoods and DC suburbs when we were moving here from out of state. |
| I was a nanny., this forum was mentioned on another now defunct forum. |
| I saw an article about a medical profession nal who was taken down, delicensed for some time, and vilified basically because of comments made on various platforms, including this one. I kind of knew this person and not a whole lot fit the reality, but, truly, I had no idea one way or the other. And- I still do not. I became intrigued at the power of online words and rhetoric, and this was looooong before online crowd sourcing became a thing or FB's power play in the last 2 elections. Anonymity has a benefit in some ways, but also increases opportunities for misinformation or disinformation. I find the raw expression fascinating, but if one wanted to study trolling, this is a good place to start. One can write about a recipe and literally trigger a troll. It's sociology. |
| Back in the listserv days! I too have a senior in HS now |
| Googling some DC back-in-the-day stuff and found a pertinent thread. I got hooked around the time of the COVID closures. |
| Looking for info on 504s etc for my severely ADD kid. Who is now an adult taking the slow delayed path through college. Probably won’t have a degree until he’s almost 30. |
| I applied to teach at a school and was googling it. A bunch of threads came up. |
Slow and steady wins the race. 😊 . |
| Looking for daycare recommendations for my now 6 year old. As snarky as it is, I love it. There’s some really great information. |
| Was trying to have a baby not having success with cookie cutter infertility treatments. An acquaintance mentioned this site and the infertility forum. I actually got great advice about what tests to request and which doctors to consult. DC is still a toddler but ive been hooked since 2017. |
| I have a vague recollection of landing here after googling new mom things, thinking "those people are horrible", and left. Came back years later and got hooked. |
| Nanny search. |
|
Googling about trying to conceive when I was having trouble. Have two kids now.
I also tell parents about this site, and I describe it as a great mix of helpful info when you need it (I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility on a rec from this site, you guys helped me pick a stroller, etc) and besides that, very high entertainment value. I do warn people that the average income seems to be above $200k, so ignore the money perspective on everything, it’s completely absurd. |

We moved from CA in the early 2000s and I was looking for something to replace Berkeley parents’ network. At the time I had no idea that these forums didn’t exist in every city!
DCUM is much better than the Berkeley forum in terms of entertainment! |
