| Obsessively reading as the Lululemon murder unfolded and could never quit. It’s the honesty that I crave - everyone (myself included) is so fake in real life. |

2010, was pregnant and had just moved to DC. Googled DC parenting groups or something of the like. Found this. Read a few posts and then posted about the anxiety my DH was having over becoming a father because his parents were shit. The first three posts said I should never have become pregnant--and I cried all night.
I'm now much more careful when I post! |
| List serve here too, in the early aughts. One of my friends had a love/hate relationship with it, and would send me threads with snarky commentary. I enjoyed that, but also never felt the condescension she did toward the posts. I remember the early days of the forum when the infamous banned DCUM “Amy” ran amuck. I kept thinking it was such a weird coincidence that I worked with a notorious Amy. It was not a coincidence. |
I didn’t read up on the lululemon murders here but was following it closely bc I know people who knew the victim. So sad. I originally only came here for nanny searches in the earlier years of parenting. Followed the thread on the DC mansion murders as I’m in the neighborhood but ultimately came back for the covid ballet party thread (figured DCUM would have more details than anywhere else). It sucked me in and now I am having trouble leaving 🤪 |
| Real estate forum around 2011. |
| I used to be a nanny |

I don't remember because I'm getting old, in my 60s, but it's been ten or fifteen years. I think I googled something. I love this sight, though. I used to read Fairfax Underground but that one is just too disgusting, I had to quit. DCUM is so much better.
It took me a little while to get used to the whole DCUM mentality and the snark and the trolls but I love the way Jeff handles it all and I'm totally hooked. I dislike it when people here try to imply I'm not welcome here because I'm too old or because I no longer live in the DC area. I'm a mom, a grandma and a great grandma, used to be a MIL, have lots of interests related to different forums here, and was born and raised and raised my own kids in NoVa. I'm here and I'm not going anywhere and I'll report you if you call me grandma other than very affectionately. |

Seeking advice on infertility treatments. It was 4 years before I even realized how many other forums there were, since I only visited the IF one.
I suspect that there are several of us who ended up here that way, since even from people outside of DC (which I was when TTC DC#2) this is one of the more informative places to get real, unvarnished information about treatment options. |
| Our realtor recommended it to me when we were looking for a place to buy in Capitol Hill and I had questions about the schools. I posted a question about Maury and someone responded that sending your kid there was child abuse. My kids went to Maury and we loved every second. DCUM has been my guilty pleasure ever since. |
| It was linked on LNS. When someone posted about a fake drug running rampant at the top 3 😂. At 25 I found this sight hysterical. At 38 I love it for totally different reasons. I also invited Jeff to LNS so he could keep an eye on the chaos they were creating over here. |
| When my old coworker told me to “never read dc urban mom” at my baby shower. |
|
I was a nanny in college in 2005. A mom I worked for told me about the email listserve and I used to advertise on it for babysitting jobs.
I read off and on from then until I got pregnant in 2012. This actually prompted me to search my email just now. Apparently I was a registered user in 2014. Here is a thread I participated in https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/231860.page I quickly understood that nobody else was registering after that

Yeah, everything is bashing boomers here, clearly not up on which generation they are bashing..always way off. And if there's a comment on any thread that anyone disagrees with...more condescending ageist trolling. Every day. |
Truer words were never spoken... |
Love you, grandma! 🤗 |
