Why are Montgomery County residents so über covid conscious?

I tend to forget I have it on. I am sure people see me outdoors with it or whatever. Most of the time I have left a store and forgot I was wearing it. I eat indoors and go about my life, but I don't really notice my mask.

I do not understand people like OP who freak out and panic when they see someone outside with a mask on.

I did not read OP’s post as from someone who “freaks out and panics”. I do read it as from someone concerned about this area’s inability to get back to normal life, which is a legitimate concern both at a policy and a personal level. If a lot of your friends continue to be hyper cautious, it will affect your social life. Outdoor masks are one indicator of a hyper cautious attitude that everyone can monitor, even if not all instances are indicative of hyper cautiousness.

She sounds totally freaked out and panicked to me. Otherwise why would she even care in the slightest that someone has a mask on outdoors. I don't notice.or care and I can't imagine being upset enough about it to write about it on DCUM.

They must not know any Asians many have worn masks outdoors for decades.

It's like whoever is posting doesn't even live in MoCo.

I care about my health. I will continue to mask and social distance. I will continue to avoid you op as you put me at high risk of Covid, which probably means death for me.

Bingo!

Yet another of these oddly politicized posts where the OP rarely or never comes back to interact with other people posting.

This is how I see it too pp. Sometimes I forget to take the mask off, or have another stop to make. It's not a big deal.

Assume OP must have some untreated anxiety about seeing other people doing something they don't want to do, and feeling less than or lost. Otherwise, I really don't understand.

People can be outside without masks in MoCo, people can eat inside without masks in MoCo. Some people chose to wear masks outside, for reasons others don't know. It's perfectly ok OP. Chill.

NP. Funny, I tend to assume that people wearing masks outdoors have untreated anxiety. People posting on DCUM just have too much time on their hands or a slow and boring day at work.

It's bizarre to me that this has turned into weird gaslighting about how Asians have worn masks outdoors for decades.

Like... that has happened occasionally in the US, I'll give you that. Like, I have seen Asian-American people wearing masks prior to covid. (My brother, who lives in Japan, says it's a courtesy to prevent spreading illness -- the people who wear them are actively sick in most cases. How nice of them!)

But to talk about it like it's a common, wide reaching phenomenon among healthy Asian Americans pre-covid? Um. No. That just isn't the case.

Yeah, healthy Asians don’t wear masks outdoors, neither here nor in Asia.

Yup, that's exactly what it is. They wait for this thread to grow and politicize the "issue" that doesn't exist. Same argument that goes over and over, and when someone points this out, they conveniently ignore it. Folks, don't bite on these types of posts.

Well, older asians did in my MoCo neighborhood, during winter, pre Covid. That's why I don't think these posters live in MoCo or live in the rare non diverse areas of MoCo.

The issue of hyper Covid cautiousness very much does exist in this area. It’s what closed schools for 1.5 years and still gives us overly restrictive quarantine policies.

Me too, older and younger.

They were just kind not to spread colds and the flu.

Also didn’t time in Boston mask pre-covid on the street every day. (Mostly Alston)

My mom is 80, Asian, doesn't live in MoCo, but she did wear a mask outside precovid, in the winter. older Asians have a thing about breathing in cold air, and how it's "bad for you".

A lot of Asians in Asia also wear masks because of air pollution.

I will never understand how your mind goes to untreated anxiety if you post on DCUM. Thread after thread after thread people talk about how at this point they just forget their mask or whatever. But you go right to anxiety.

what is up with you?

No the problem is people like you who are hanging on to what was happening a year ago instead of looking around at what is happening now. Kids are in school. quarantine policies are changing.

Get. over. it. For your kids sake and everyone's sake, focus on the now.

What’s up with me? I don’t base my assumptions on what I read on DCUM. I actually know people in real life who I know have excessive Covid anxiety and therefore wear masks outdoors.
