What are you talking about?

^PP is a high anxiety person who will wear masks forever.

I loathe Trump, down to every fiber and cell, but masking outdoors, especially when it's not crowded is not based on science.

I've said it before.. people here are uber conservative about covid because of fear. Some of it could be that they are high anxiety people in general; risk averse; careful about everything.

Maybe some read too many stories about people dying of covid, a bit like conspiracy theorists who go down a rabbit hole. I still see some people shopping with plastic gloves.

I am fully vaxxed, fwiw.

Then how do you explain Maryland drivers?

that's a different thread, but IMO, MD drivers are cautious, but you can be cautious and still be a bad driver. Ex. driving too slowly can cause accidents.

I wear a mask indoors because I don’t want to get the check out person sick.

Otherwise I live my life like everybody in a red state.

What exactly are you unable to do that makes you describe moco as Uber covid conscience?

Affluence and the ability to take extreme measures. When you live in a more blue collar area where people couldn't work from home for 18 months, when they were struggling to find childcare when schools were shut down and they had to go to a physical workplace, didn't have Uber eats deliver restaurant meals, you were over it a long time ago. MoCo can keep it going forever.

That's also why very liberal areas tend to have higher tax rates, higher minimum wage, more social welfare, do more things for the poor.

It's a collective mindset vs individual mindset.

This is laughable.

Why? It's definitely accurate.

Have you ever left your very liberal area ever? You think people in red states don't do anything for their neighbors or to help the poor? Or do whatever they "like as long as it's not illegal?"

Get your nose out of the air.

Can somebody explain what is happening in Montgomery county that Uber Covid conscience?

Case counts were significantly higher in Silver Spring than the western side so it makes sense that people in Silver Spring are still cautious. The housing is more dense and crowded so it might also be this.

Because a significant number of people who live in MoCo are FDA or NIH employees. Or work for one of the pharma companies. Along with other scientists who work at NOAA and many other federal agencies and private companies.

We're not yokels who believe the science info FOX is selling.

Again, I don’t think this needs to be political. I’m a Bernie Sanders voter. I hate wearing a mask for anything longer than ten minutes in a store. I don’t see the point. I don’t think it’s necessary to wear a mask to hang out with my vaccinated friends, anywhere. Yes breakthrough cases exists. So do car accidents. If MoCo progressives wanted to be all about avoiding even minimal risks of somebody dying, they’d drive better on 495 and 270. I’m far more terrified of a rogue MoCo Prius driver than a maskless person on a bike.

Is it really about health consciousness? Then why don’t we have a soda tax? Why don’t we tax all junk food then? Is the arbiter of health consciousness our 300 lb County Executive? Because….he wears masks?

Sure, they help their neighbor, but they don't think of the collective good. It's usually about "pull yourself up by your bootraps" and "don't tread on me" .. individual rights.

Judging from DCUM, all the Karens in the country move here, so it’s turned into Karen Mecca.

It does seem like the board has been invaded by right wing people that don’t live in the DMV.

Right, but since we know the science, we should also have the integrity not to insist in masks outdoors in uncrowded settings, since the science doesn't support that. Interestingly, it's the highly educated, *non* scientists who are the ones I see continuing to mask outdoors. Us scientists know better.

You have zero idea about anything about me, but I do hold a PhD in American Political Science and specialized in political psych/public opinion. Levels of Individualism are higher among conservative/Republican ideology. Pure and simple.

I guarantee you I grew up in a redder state than you did.
