I didn’t get this at all.

I definitely was thinking he read as autistic and wondered if that was based on the real Richard sackler.

Likely a personality disorder. Lack of empathy. I thought it was interesting another family member pointed out he was widely disliked.

Definitely came across that he was widely disliked within the company and within the family. He is divorced now, too.

I've seen episode 1 so far. It was good, but hard to watch.

My parents are both from rural WV, and the only ones of their respective families that went to college and "got out" so to speak. Most of my uncles were/are coal miners or work on the pipeline. Many of my cousins do/did the same work. A LOT of them became addicted to Oxy over the years. Some recovered and are clean but a bunch moved on to meth and some even died.

My parents were both successful and fortunate people. They supported their families through the years and I know my dad in particular felt a lot of responsibility when he realized that the money he was providing to help them better their lives was actually contributing to their downfalls.

Agree. And quite the commentary on why rural white America doesn’t trust pharma to save them - Aka vaccine resistance.

Compared to Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, etc. her career wasn't nearly as hot. I haven't seen her in anything since St. Elmo's.

You're watching the wrong stuff. Mare Winningham is a seven-time Emmy Award nominee, the recipient of two Primetime Emmy Awards and has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards and a Tony Award.

Cool. I thought it was cool to see her after not seeing her since the 80s. Relax.

I'm so happy for her. I was excited to see her after not seeing her in anything for over a decade!

You just keep digging in. Let it go. We all get it, you don't get out much.

It's true. And not just distrust of big pharma, but government. In many ways the government failed to protect people - from the FDA that allowed the label (and then the guy turned around and got a 400K a year gig at the company) from the DEA and others not prioritizing a crackdown. And we wonder why there is anti-vax sentiment.

I thought the show would be a documentary. The book reads like a very long article. I don’t know know why my brain can’t switch from info to dramatization, but I’m having a hard time watching it. I suppose I have to leave all of the stuff from the book aside, and follow the stories.

The FDA is painted really poorly. It may be deserved for options, but I don't believe that the organization is generally so impotent. They were just slow to adapt to a new threat--most issues related to safety or efficacy are more standard and fall within existing FDA guidance.

Options = opiods

I am as liberal/left-leaning/Democrat/city-rat as one can get, and yet I felt such kindredness with the people depicted in the show. I've visited different parts of the Appalachia region throughout my life and have such admiration for the sense of identity, hard work, and culture that defines the region, even with all its flaws. I really feel for the people that have suffered so much from the opioid epidemic and feel like the Sackler family name should become as infamous as possible -- synonymous with corporate greed and untold evil. Taint their name. Make it a meme in the way that Hitler has become. Let that, at least, be the reparations they pay for their sins, considering that none have gone to prison and all are still sitting on billions of dollars.

Ugh, gross. Big pharma is so so gross and I don't know how anyone can associate with it.

You think this is just tied to pharma? You don’t think their are elected officials in Congress that pass laws (many that are detrimental to Americans) just for the sake of their next job? This is every day.

Energy sector too.

So this week a federal judge overturned the settlement that shielded the Sackler family from future opioid litigation.

I just watched Dopesick this weekend, after just seeing Danny Strong interviewed by Bill Maher (who-- sidenote-- is increasingly insufferable).

I was actually pretty shocked at the 400k salary. What a paltry amount of money to sell your soul for. I expected the reveal to be something upwards of a million.

Also like a PP, I, too, couldn't help but think of vaccine resistance in communities which have been hit hard by the opioid epidemic. In reality, the Sacklers were murderous twice-- first with their shady practices in pumping those communities full of a dangerous drug and second by undermining the people's faith and trust in government regulators and the medical establishment.
