how do you know those kids are "privileged"? Also, I'm willing to bet that if they made racist statements against black players there would be more outrage. |
You seem to have a lot of information about the incidents. |
Exactly. The adults in charge failed to act. |
There aren’t large crowds at girls games. Regardless, this sort of news that everyone is trying to determine is hard to keep a secret. Kids talk. So do parents. |
The area where I live in Olney is similarly diverse and people tend to be respectful of each other. It’s really weird that everyone has assumed rich white kids were involved and the entire school and surrounding towns are universally racist. Tell me your zip code and school, and I’m positive we can enlighten you on recent incidents where stupid kids said/did stupid racist things. Would that make your entire school and surrounding area racist? |
My school has been accused by DCUM of overreacting to racism and being “too woke” so I doubt anyone would accuse us of all being racists. Anyone who knows Sherwood doesn’t think the problem was the “rich kids”. |
I don't consider Olney a rich area. It's middle class, as is Einstein. Olney and that part of the county is majority white, and not much diversity, and that's where racist/intolerant incidents like what's going on in Sherwood tend to happen. |
|
Sherwood is diverse. It has twice as many Asians as Einstein, the same number of Black students, and their percentage of whites and Hispanics flip flop (with Sherwood having twice the amount of whites as Hispanics, and Einstein having twice the amount of Hispanics than whites). Both schools are diverse. Sherwood is arguably more diverse given its higher percentage of Asians.
|
LOL So smug. Where did you end up buying? We can likely tell you some great stories about your kids’ future high school. |
Which part of Takoma Park do you live in? |
|
Let’s be real here, the soccer players from Sherwood don’t know the socioeconomic and racial makeup of Einstein. It’s a group of kids heckling their opponent and making a play on words. As adults, are we reading too much into it? Yes, it needs addressed but going out for blood because we think we know their intentions is wrong.
Look into the the students from the Sherwood boys soccer team. I’d estimate less than 20% are white. The remaining players are asian, Hispanic, black or a mix. It’s an incredibly diverse group of boys. If any post should be deleted, it should be the one that accuses the Sherwood community of trying to keep their community white. Less than 50% of the students are white. How is that not diverse? Also, do you even know the history of Sandy Spring? |
Define racism. Now look in the mirror when you make these assumptions about a group based on single events. Get it? |
EXACTLY!! Let’s respond to racism by stereotyping an entire group and throwing insults at the group. |
The only people showing up at soccer(girls or boys) are the parents. Usually the number of people watching are about the size of the roster. So it should be pretty easy to know who said what. |
|
The Sherwood demographics are irrelevant. Sherwood students made racist remarks toward Asian Einstein students. Sherwood coaches were told and did nothing at the time until forced to after the fact.
