Reading about Sherwood which I'd never heard of until now makes me very happy to have avoided that Olney area in house shopping

Tell us your zip code and school pyramid, and we can do a quick google search to find similar incidents in your neck of the woods.

Everyone is right to be upset. This is clearly inappropriate behavior. But it’s really weird how people are labeling the school (and now the entire area) as some racist outlier.

Actually the area we live is diverse and people tend to be very respectful of each other here. I didn't want to live in a more homogenous area because incidents like what's going on in Sherwood tend to happen.

I would consider Sherwood a diverse school. The school needs to do better to squash racism.

Fear of inadequacies is behind a lot of racist behavior.

PP….seriously

This is kind of behavior is happening across Montgomery County schools; does not matter the physical school loacation what matters is what the administration and senior leadership is going to do about it. The whole thing is incredibly sad. Maybe MCPS should pay investin some micro aggressions training for everybody!

That's zero tolerance. What actually happened was high tolerance of racism against Asian American students by the adults there. If this happened to black players, I'm pretty sure there would've been a much bigger stink DURING the game.

Double standard.

Completely agree and MCPS has not been shy about revealing the nature of racist graffiti or other remarks when it was directed at Black students or Jewish students. Why won't they publicly talk about and apologize for the racist remarks against Asian American students?

The entire sports season should be canceled. Sorry but that's zero tolerance. The season should just end for them.

MCPS, why aren't you answering important questions.

How have you allowed the Sherwood principal to get away with the nothing apology and take so little action?
Why haven't the perps been identified? They should be suspended.
Sherwood has a higher percentage of Asians than Einstein. How are Asian Americans at Sherwood reacting and what is the principal doing to address this?
Why isn't MCPS talking about body shaming, stereotyping and sexism behind some of the remarks?

What are you doing more broadly to address racism against Asian Americans in MCPS? Where is the BOE on this? They have been all for equity and diversity but Asian Americans have been left out of all the discussion except for when people including the BOE makes disparaging remarks.

They apologized for vague racist remarks. That's the point people are trying to make, that they didn't recognize the actual group that was targeted.

Why haven't the coach and other Sherwood staff on site that were informed of the incident or witnessed it and did not take action fired?

A few privileged kids (who, btw, we don't the race of the offenders), act like a-holes, and people here want the full season cancelled and staff fired.

You guys are crazy

I don't they need to be fired, but I want to know why the coaches and adults at the game did when they heard these remarks. Did they do anything? If they did nothing, then they should certainly be reprimanded for allowing this racist behavior to continue.

Like I stated up thread, if these remarks were against black kids, I'm pretty sure people during the game would have shut that sh1t down. But because it was against Asian American students, no one thought it was a big deal.

Once again, racism seems to be tolerated by some against Asian Americans.

What is the NAACP PTSA liaison doing about this?

Three incidents over a week or so from the same school directed at Einstein

The Principal is addressing the situation (2 different emails) and has reached out to address this with the other school prior to the Washington Post Article. Problem is MCPS does nothing toward accountability at any school, and this systemic problem starts at home.

His initial email to Einstein was very weak. A parent on the Einstein listserv who lives in the Sherwood area (because kid goes to magnet at Einstein) said that her kids have experienced racism throughout the Sherwood cluster. Seems like a systemic problem.
