Thoughts on "fur baby" and pet "mom/dad/etc"?

Yeah. It's weird when people think dogs are a child replacement. I'm on my fourth dog. I know I will have to keep replacing them. That's hardly the case with children.

I only care because my MIL prioritizes her many "fur kids" over her actual kids and grandkids. Otherwise, you do you, folks.

This is one of the meaner things I’ve read on here for awhile. What if they can’t have kids or haven’t found the right person or time to have kids. Or just don’t want to be a parent for various reasons. Your comment is more gross than furbaby.

I got my dog after my sixth round of unsuccessful IVF. She is the closest thing I'll have to a child.
I'll never understand why the "have"s feel the need to be cruel to the "have not"s.
And no, I don't call her my furbaby.

Surely you can see that one thing is not related to the other? I'm sorry you were unsuccesful with IVF. That doesn't change the fact that it's a dog, and is nothing at all like a child. This has nothing to do with the "haves" or "have-nots". (Neither of which require an apostrophe)

I didn’t use an apostrophe, you miserable person.

That makes a miserable person? Maybe just bad vision. You sound pretty miserable, the PP didn't say anything mean to you, in fact did say she was sorry about your unsuccessful treatments.
Lashing out for no real reason doesn't present you in the best light.

The PP completely missed my point and instead just doubled down on being rude, including correcting grammar that wasn’t incorrect.

I don’t call my dog my fur baby and I don’t think of her as I would a human child. I do love her though and she’s made my life wonderful. (Not miserable at all). My comment was a response to another which suggested having a bit more compassion toward people who might use silly terms of their pets. If you think a childless or lonely woman who calls her pet her fur baby is so pathetic, just ignore her and go spend time with your kids. Piling on people you think are tragic is just mean.

My dog is always leashed unless we're in a designated off-leash area. If she's with me, she comes into any stores where she's allowed, ie. not the grocery store or any place that sells food. Otherwise, she's at home or at day care. I will never leave her outside alone, even if I can see her. Dogs are often stolen, and several people have threatened to steal mine.

GMAFB. Idoubt your dog is so precious that someone wants to steal it. Or maybe get a breed that can't really be stolen, not a pocket toy.

Dog theft is a booming business.

Yes, there have been recent reports of people being held at gunpoint in DC for their dogs, so I have a new thing to fear. One of the top choices was Golden Retrievers/Golden Doodles, so not only small dogs. The idea of my dog being taken from me and sent to some fight ring is absolutely horrifying, no way would I just leave her outside a store (we don't go in stores, but I'd do that if I had to before tying her outside).

Yeah, don't think it's about replacing them. What an odd comment. And they never were supposed to be or are replacements for anything, children or otherwise. They are an entity in and of themselves. I think the problem is that there is always a comparison to children, and there doesn't need to be.

If a store allows it, I will take my dog into the store. You should feel free to shop elsewhere if the store’s policies bother you.

Gosh this is so pathetic. It is sad when people can’t even part with their dogs oh ahem, fur children, to go to the store. You do know your dog isn’t actually a child, right?

^^PP is insecure about having children.

The PPs who are cruel about child-free dog owners are gross.

^^Insecure about her role as a mother.

Just a heads up: I’m pretty sure there is not one childless pet-owner who literally thinks their pet is a child. There is no need to inform them of this fact.

Calling themselves the animal’s mom and calling her pets her children suggests they think there’s a similarity.

I’ve never referred to my pets as children or myself as their mom, but after learning how triggered some of you are, I think I’m going to start.

I’ve heard people compare puppyhood to having a newborn. Trust me, you’re definitely sleeping more with a puppy

We keep trying to tell you…it’s not triggering. We just feel sorry for you.
