Thoughts on "fur baby" and pet "mom/dad/etc"?

People can do whatever they want with their pet at home and among their pet friends. However, your pet is not a human child. Which means it needs to be on a leash in public, and you should not be taking it into stores. Ever.

I don't use them but don't care if others do. On the other hand, I find "kiddo" cringeworthy even though "doggo" is fine.

And I do wish people wouldn't talk about their pets "going to the bathroom" or being "potty trained." I mean, maybe your cat uses the toilet, but I doubt it.

Gosh this is so pathetic. It is sad when people can’t even part with their dogs oh ahem, fur children, to go to the store. You do know your dog isn’t actually a child, right?

My dog is always leashed unless we're in a designated off-leash area. If she's with me, she comes into any stores where she's allowed, ie. not the grocery store or any place that sells food. Otherwise, she's at home or at day care. I will never leave her outside alone, even if I can see her. Dogs are often stolen, and several people have threatened to steal mine.

Um, yes, dog theft is actually a big problem where I live. Someone could easily re-sell her for several grand. There are more people who want pets than there are pets available right now.

The biggest problem is most stores have policies against it, but employees are instructed to avoid confrontation. For example, Whole Foods does not allow dogs. Whole Foods employees are instructed not to confront a customer that brings a dog into the store.

Leave your dog at home, or *gasp* in the car with a window cracked. Feel free to take it into a pet store...

I got my dog after my sixth round of unsuccessful IVF. She is the closest thing I'll have to a child.
I'll never understand why the "have"s feel the need to be cruel to the "have not"s.
And no, I don't call her my furbaby.

The vet receptionist asked what I was bringing my baby in for.

I was so confused I nearly said “what baby?” He’s 90 pounds. The only babies that are 90 pounds are whales or maybe a moose.
