Thoughts on "fur baby" and pet "mom/dad/etc"?

My coworker talks a lot about how she can’t come into the office more often due to her dog (we’re hybrid, 3 days in and 2 days at home - she comes in for half a day once a week). She says “that’s my child” and obviously really loves her dog, but I think it’s inaccurate and weird to proclaim that.
