They keep hearing the lies repeated often. If there’s no one there to refute it every time with evidence that fits into a soundbite and can’t be twisted into further proof to back the lie, eventually the lie sticks. |
| I like DePape’s lawyer so far. He seems reasonable, like a normal guy thrust into an uncomfortable situation, not some jerk trying to get his 15 minutes. Normal is good. I think we all could use some more normal. |

Depape has pled not guilty. This is sanity folks:

+1 People don't want to believe painful things that might reflect badly on them. Their brain cooperates with this deception. Easier to believe so crazy story about people they have been told to villainize, than to think it might be political violence spurred by their own talk or those of their leaders. Others who know reality, think it better to side with the crazies rather than Democrats. Currently, they will not really care whether anyone gets hurt/dies or not, even though some will make appropriate statements at the time. |
They like the lies they’re fed about Democrats and Democratic policies and in order to keep believing those, they swallow the whole fish. |
Nobody thinks going all in on hardcore RW conspiracies and being mentally ill are mutually exclusive. He has mental illness and that made him extra susceptible to MAGA bs. MAGA extremists have groomed people like DePape, as well as people who aren’t as mentally fragile. They’ve been exploiting fear, anger, ignorance and irrationality. |

Well this is a quote from the Cheif of the Capitol Police that directly explains the threat we are facing as a country: “In a statement Tuesday, Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said that while there have been improvements — for instance, the department is on track to hire 280 additional officers this year — the country’s “political climate” is going to necessitate “additional layers of physical security.” So if Trump and Republicans don’t intend to harm anyone then why do we need additional physical layers of security to protect Pelosi? |
Plus, once you’ve gotten onboard with a few smaller lies, coming back to reality means admitting you believed lies. Even more painful. So they have to get onboard with whatever explains away that uncomfortable truth. And so the lies just keep getting more convoluted as they try to hold back that painful hit of truth. |
What’s being said above is that the mentally ill part is all in his past and that over the past 10 years, he was able to hold a good job and was essentially the pillar of sanity until DJT came along and made him insane again. As someone with degrees in this field, that’s not a possibility. The fact that he gave a statement stating all he did, and then plead not guilty, speaks volumes as to the current state of his mental health. It’s much easier to accuse a huge portion of the population of being brainwashed, groomed, exploited then it is to accept that there has been a hard left turn in policy in this country, and others, that is harming the livelihoods and physical safety of others. Other nations like Italy, the Netherlands, and Australia have people fighting against the same policies. When you threaten an individual’s ability to work, feed their family, physical movement, etc, they tend to get angry. |
Re: the bolded. Ever stop to think that the political climate also refers to attitudes of Democrats? You do realize that Republicans on the Hill face threats as well? |
So does Brazil. Now explain how the Brazilian election is going and how right wing misinformation is not the crisis of our time? It’s literally international now. They are talking about how Bolsonaro won. Sound familiar? Are you really saying that is actually legit and not propaganda? |
