Was it the book The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult about a Holocaust survivor now banned in Martin County? |
Look if you as a parent want to police what your kids are reading then that is your right. You have no right to police what MY kids choose to read. Y’all are authoritarian thugs. |
. Au contraire. We have every right to limit what is available in school libraries. If you want your child to read smut, find it at the local public library. |
Nope. Look for yourself. The video that was shown which prompted the feed to be cut is at this link: https://therightscoop.com/breaking-gov-desantis-film-revealing-banned-books-from-schools-is-so-graphic-that-news-networks-had-to-cut-the-feed/ |
What gives you that right? What if a group of us parents decided to ban books that you want for your kids but we've decided are smut and without value? Who are you to tell us we are wrong? |
Already happening. In Britain, they are declaring as evidence of white supremacy interest in Shakespeare, Lord of the Rings, 1984. |
The list of books banned in Florida is publicly available (and it’s been linked and discussed on this thread, though it’s been ignored by the fascists) and it’s not smut. It’s multicultural books. Books that acknowledge gay people as humans. Books that talk about the contributions of women and not White people to our culture, to technology. Books that talk about age appropriate sexuality, things like consent (i.e., your body is your body and people can’t touch it without your permission) and appropriate names for body parts.
So basically everything that Republicans fear. |
Shame on anyone for banning books and removing them from libraries. Do you agree? Or are you happy to ban Shakespeare either because of “white supremacy”’or because of cross dressing in his plays? Also please post a link that those books you reference have been banned and removed from actual libraries. |
I don't think they've been removed yet. They have been called out as signs of white nationalism by a government agency tasked with combating extremism. |
+1 |
Absent links, your wild claims are a bit hard to believe. People have said those things, I’m sure. Actually removing them from schools and libraries in Britain? Doubtful. |
Once again.... the actual books that have been removed from SCHOOL libraries are in a video at this link: https://therightscoop.com/breaking-gov-desantis-film-revealing-banned-books-from-schools-is-so-graphic-that-news-networks-had-to-cut-the-feed/ It baffles me why anyone would object to these books being removed. Be honest... would you want your 10 or 12 YO reading any of these books? |
I'm sure you're familiar with the term black list. Which is a list of banned somethings. In your description, books. The opposite is a white list. A white list is a list of allowed somethings. FL didn't do a black list of books that christian conservatives don't like. They're doing a white list. Only books they approve of get to be in schools. |
So, what books are missing from that list that you feel so passionately should be there? Lawn Boy? |
The primary reason the books are now getting all this attention is that graphic novels have become incredibly popular. In addition, books depict homosexual sex. However, do NOT pretend that books depicting heterosexual sex, sometimes graphically, were not present in school libraries 30 years ago. Also don't pretend that pictures are worse than words. Words are quite potent for women in particular. -Girl who got off to Judy Blume books in the 80s-90s. |
