Travel Soccer club refund/opt out for coaching change

Has anyone had a club pull the old okie doke and change coaches after you have signed your contract with the club? I know clubs like BRYC often list the same coaches for several different ages and teams. then come time for games the younger A team gets screwed in favor of the older age teams. And if your child is on the B team , Well just be happy with whatever coach isn't busy that day for to coach most all of your games. does anyone else get ticked at this ? The lack of consistency only hinders player development. I think most parents live in fear their child will be benched or even cut for challenging the clubs coaching carrousel. As much money as these clubs charge they should be able to fill a full coaching staff with a dedicated coach for each team. Also the club should hire a team manager and not rely on a volunteer parent to do the job. 1. its part of the clubs responsibility . 2. It keeps the ass kissing team parent from getting favoritism for their child. please add your opinions and thoughts.

No one on our team wants to do the team manager job, the coach sent out numerous emails begging people to do it. I eventually said that I would. I'm not an "ass kisser" and don't expect it to get my son any favoritism - he is one of the weaker players on the team and IMO, should be grateful to have been offered a spot. What he does with that spot is on him. But given that the club does not hire a team manager, somebody had to do it.

Ditto here from a Team Manager who is also not an ass-kisser. NO ONE wants to do this job and no, my child does not get any favoritism whatsoever. You should be grateful we do this (with ft jobs btw).

What gender/age group is your child? There are still spots on club teams near BRYC if that is the club you want to leave.

The one and only time I took the job, I got it the same way. I made the rookie mistake of saying 'well-if nobody else volunteers let me know' when approached in person. Before I even got home there was an email announcing me as the manager.

I never talked to the Coach other than logistical things---time for kids to be at field, etc.

Some Clubs though---that spot is always the a**-kisser. This Club parents were less intense, but I've been in a Club where every manager was that 'guy'. And, they had all of the gossip and spread it like wild-fire.

Btw, you don't need to be manager to be a major a**-kisser. Trust me on that one.

I am a manager for a club that charges around 2000-2500 per year. I have access to the team budget and there is no place to find money to hire a team manager. The club fee is a relatively small part of the budget--maybe the megaclubs are making big bucks but I cannot see how anyone is getting rich here. The bulk of the money goes to paying professional coaches, tournaments, league fees, futsal, and so on. All the money gets used up!

And second, I have to say that I have never seen a manager's kids get special treatment. I have three kids and we have been doing this for years. On my other two kid's teams, the manager's kids don't even start. Maybe some people are prone to ass-kissing but I don't see the coaches responding to it.

OP here not saying every manager is an ass kisser at all . I apologize if I offered anyone. I just think that there is more than enough money being poured into these clubs they should have a club employee handle that duty. That also takes out the possibly of the (ass kisser) as well as gossip about the manager role. My child loves where he plays because of the friends he plays with and attends school with. half of the fun for him is the carpools to games and practices. But I will say there has been a lot of conversations between parents about the coaching carrousel and lack of direct coaching communication to parents. There may be a mass exit coming next spring

My son plays for this club too. he is on the Elite team. Too often he is asked to guest play for the Blue team because they don't have enough roster players. I get so frustrated because my son should being playing with his team. Just out of curiosity what other close by clubs still need u-12s for next fall ?

Pay $10K a year for DA and you'll get your professional team manager. I agree that I have never seen a manager's kid get special treatment over all these years in travel (including some as a non-ass-kissing team manager). And also agree that you don't have to be a manager to be an ass kisser. I think the whole suck-up parent thing is overplayed. Most paid coaches don't have the time for that shit and can see right through it.

And, as to coach changes...it happens. Sometimes coaches leave before the next season starts - they're a mobile bunch, most young guys/gals just trying to make a living. Best to choose a club where you're comfortable with the overall quality of the coaching staff as a whole - where you trust that most anyone they hire can do the job. And, yes, the better coaches are assigned to the better teams. That's just the way it is. Would you expect them to assign their weakest, least experienced coaches on the best teams?

Rising U12? That means your son is a 2007. Is that right? Or is he a 2006 and rising U13?

Two years ago we were literally sold at BRYC by one coach and his philosophy etc only to sign up and have him move to another age group. I was not happy but stuck it out since it happened right at the start of the season. Check your agreement, I doubt if there is an out clause if they change the coach. Much of the material I read is that coaching slates are subject to change. Good luck.

We are starting U11G Travel for the first time for Fall 2018. I plan to ingrain in my daughter that even if the coach sucks, hang in there and continue to work on her skills and practice hard. Once the year is over, we will tryout for other clubs/teams. It’s important to maintain her love for the game. As adults, we don’t change the career we love just because our boss/company sucks, we go get a better job elsewhere.

As a veteran team manager you must give the coach your requirements. The coach coaches, you run the team.. All communication goes through you, The coach should not have side conversations with parents (especially the ass kissers)

You manage the TeamSnap account and set the times when people must reply by and send out weekly timeline each Sunday night or Monday morning and your job is pretty easy.
