Also the club should hire a team manager and not rely on a volunteer parent to do the job. 1. its part of the clubs responsibility . 2. It keeps the ass kissing team parent from getting favoritism for their child.
No one on our team wants to do the team manager job, the coach sent out numerous emails begging people to do it. I eventually said that I would. I'm not an "ass kisser" and don't expect it to get my son any favoritism - he is one of the weaker players on the team and IMO, should be grateful to have been offered a spot. What he does with that spot is on him. But given that the club does not hire a team manager, somebody had to do it.
The one and only time I took the job, I got it the same way. I made the rookie mistake of saying 'well-if nobody else volunteers let me know' when approached in person. Before I even got home there was an email announcing me as the manager. I never talked to the Coach other than logistical things---time for kids to be at field, etc. Some Clubs though---that spot is always the a**-kisser. This Club parents were less intense, but I've been in a Club where every manager was that 'guy'. And, they had all of the gossip and spread it like wild-fire. Btw, you don't need to be manager to be a major a**-kisser. Trust me on that one.
