Where was the field marshal?

Standing there doing nothing.

Field marshalls are volunteers (likely syc parents that were required to fill slots). They do not have any authority. The center ref has the power (and responsibility) to discipline the offending coach / team.

Agreed -- and this poor ref was young and completely intimidated by the screamy Md coach and the Md parent volunteer he had picked to run the sideline.

What club? Age group? I'm curious. What happens to a coach if this happens? I would think he would get fired AT LEAST! If my son's coach was screaming at the ref dropping F bombs, I feel like I would punch him right in the face and I hope that there would be a line of parents behind me. This is unacceptable. If he still has a job, then the club needs to be called out.

U11 boys. I was seriously surprised. I actually asked the parents if that was normal behavior for their coach. They were not pleased with me, but they did not exactly defend him either. Maybe they don't have a lot of other clubs nearby and he's the only option at that club.

What Club?

Agreed, what club? Call them out, everyone post as "anonymous" anyways. Don't hold back now.

No need to. It's not one of the bigger or well known Md clubs and this was very much a coach thing. The kids (remember, 9 and 10 year olds) were just fine. Good sportsmanship (expect for one little faker!) mostly. I don't want to taint an entire club for what could be an issue with just that team. If you come across them, trust me you will know! The coach screams in a whiny, very high pitch.

Think there were multiple instances of poor behavior by coaches. The instance I witnessedat at the U11 boys Virginian tournament was by a Virginia club. No club or coaches name to be provided.

I think we call out the coach and club not to judge the club. We should understand that every club has good coaches and bad but if a coach is dropping F bombs, then I think we have an obligation to call them out in hopes that the club will feel pressured to get rid of these coaches. To say nothing is to say it's OK.

I disagree. Those parents know very well what their coach is like. They can handle the situation themselves and we can all hope they will do the right thing so our kids don't have to also be exposed to it.

You can throw a dart blindfolded and hit a club that has a situation like this, with varying degrees of course. There is a grievance process if the parents don't like what a coach is doing. It is not this forum.

I'm new to the Fairfax area. I've asked around and many parents have pointed me to Bethesda South Club? My son is currently a U11.
Can someone please tell me what makes this club better than the other ones in the area?
I'm also looking at Mclean, Great Falls and Vienna Clubs.

Bethesda South is recommended because of Yuri, the coach. The team is very strong. I'd be surprised if you could get on at this late date, or if there is room for new kids, but I don't know how they do things there.

Then McLean, then Vienna, then Great Falls. Basically its how good the club does in games against each other. They've all held try-outs already so you may be searching a bit for a spot and might want to contact them all.

If you believe your kid is a top talent then contact Bethesda South but like other poster mentioned, space may be limited. They are probably one of the best teams in the area. If a top talent but not at BSouth level, Great Falls and Vienna are not the best options. McLean is good but large player pool and tryouts already took place so space may be limited. Doesn't hurt to reach out though. Where in Fairfax do you live? Depending where you live Chantilly, Arlington and LMVSC would be good options as well. May have to settle for 2nd team at best due to most try-outs having taken place already.

12:16 - where in Fairfax? BRYC (Braddock Road Youth Club) has some very good teams. Annandale has some good teams. Our coach speaks highly of a smaller, new club called Mt. Vernon - they are apparently doing very well. Loudoun has a big system. We've played teams from McLean, Vienna, Great Falls - all pretty good. Springfield Youth Association is another one. And there's PAC in Falls Church, which is still having tryouts. If you're close-in Fairfax, Arlington is an option.

You're on the later side for tryouts, though - most will have concluded at this point. You might want to look at soccer camps for the summer and maybe find a rec team for now.

Do some research as well. They are all very different clubs and teams. They are all in different leagues and have different associations. South is EDP and is associated with Bethesda obviously, McLean has a U12 DA and is CCL, Vienna is VPL or something and has some association with VDA, Great Falls is NCSL and made some deal with other local clubs to train together. As far as strength goes, in the spring, I think South and McLean were even. I think Mclean beat them in a tournament but that isn't always telling. Yuri is considered a very good coach but some do not like his coaching style. He's more intense than most coaches. Good luck.

FPYC's U11 team (2006) has one last tryout: June 5, 5:30pm, Draper Drive Park http://fpycsports.com/travel-soccer-boys-tryouts/

Field is close to Fairfax High School, if you are not familiar with the area. About 1-2 miles from the Vienna/Fairfax Metro Station.

I wouldn't judge by results. Vienna's C team (White) has actually beaten the B team (Black) this season. But the Black team is developing quite well. The White team plays kickball. (And it'll all shake up anyway because they're losing a lot of players at 2006.)

Great Falls was really hurting for players last year. Not sure about this year.

PAC's offers are out, but they may have space. Both teams got crushed in lower-division NCSL this year, but they're learning to play a nice possession style. Too nice at times.

FPYC's 2005 group is also having a last tryout June 5th at 7 at Draper Drive.

PP, I heard a few weeks ago Bethesda South was looking for some good '06 players; not sure if they still are. If your kid is really great, they'd probably make room.

I know a couple moved to McLean DA.

PAC has only given existing player offers out, then they will see where they have spots. They had a huge group of new 06s this year and are adding a 3rd team.
