Trump Threatens to Shutdown Government if No $ for his Border Wall

Christ was very specific about this.

Shame on all of you.

And, which war is that? Do you think all the citizens of whole countries that are struggling should be welcomed here? We welcome more immigrants than any other country--and that is a great thing. We could welcome more legal immigrants if we did not have so many pushing ahead of the line.

Trump wants to curtail legal immigration and is also trying to push out Vietnamese refugees who came here legally in the 1970s. You know you gets to live in a nice place while they apply for asylum with a good chance of getting accepted? People who fly in from Venezuela.

So all this stuff about accepting legal immigrants is all just talk. Trump doesn't want legal immigrants either, unless they are from Venezuela or Norway. Or willing to work in one of his hotels.

Dude, CBP employees who actually know what they’re doing say the wall won’t work. You all and Trump are the only people who want a 15th century solution.

A survey of border agents in 2017 showed when asked about specific vulnerabilities in border security only 1% identified the lack of a wall as a security shortfall and only 4% identified fencing as an area of concern in border security.

So as Bart learned from Homer - "can't win, don't try". So we are just supposed to let people poor in unvetted? How many? Will they live with you? In your neighborhood? Attend your schools? Most of the people on this board avoid the schools that are bearing the brunt of this burden. Conditions are pretty rotten in lots of countries around the world. Do the citizens of all of these countries have a right to immigrate to the US? If that is the case, then we do not have a country.

Good walls and fences do work. They are a deterrent and they slow people down. Are they perfect? Of course not. I'm all for e-verify and catching people who have overstayed their visas. There has to be law and order - right now we have chaos. It is unfair to the people who follow the process. It is unfair to the communities that absorb most of these people.

Learn some facts before spouting off. Thanks.

What is incorrect about what I said? Do you have locks on the doors of your house? I guess you can remove them because, well, people will just figure out a way around them.

Please go find some common sense.

DP here. My house is not 2,000 miles long through empty desert and mountains.

A better analogy. I used to live in Manhattan and had a car. It was broken into several times. Each time it was locked. The only reason they broke in was to steal something in plain site. So I learned to leave nothing, not even a quarter visible. No incentive, no-one wants in.

No. It is not empty. People are crossing daily through that "empty desert and mountains." Around a half million per year.

And, some of those people are bringing lots and lots of drugs.

GOP lawmaker doubts federal employees are living paycheck to paycheck!

Has he even met any custodial staff, who are mostly contractors now? Any admin staff? Checked out the price of living in the DC metro? The number of young feds who have lots of student loan debt?

What a way to be out of touch

Speaking of being out of touch: "Are you ruining my life?"

--Susan Collins, who found out she might have to stay in DC for a spending bill vote.

It's Trump that is ruining her life. The Senate passed a CR that Trump said he would sign -- up until Coulter and Limbaugh told him not to.

“Mexico is paying for the wall. 100%.” I heard Donald say it over and over again with my own earballs. He screamed it from the podium at every rally. So why exactly is my country shut down over funding for a wall that Mexico is paying for? None of you Trumpsters have managed to answer that very simple question.

Obviously you've never been to the border.

I can assure you that there is nothing out there for vast stretches. They run drugs under the border through underground tunnels in more populated areas. Among other things. There are places in AZ/NM/TX that are extremely remote and probably not passable because of the water requirements.

Build the wall. The fact that Democrats once, only a few years ago, were all about building a physical barrier says all we need to know. For them, it is an effort to prevent Trump from fulfilling a promise.

Walls work. It was a wall that kept the thousands of migrants in the caravan out when they attempted to storm the border.
The areas along our southern border where fences and walls have been built - illegal immigration in those areas has dropped dramatically.

Why do Democrats want to make it easy for illegal aliens to enter our country?

Agree. I'd say a better title for this thread would be.....

"Democrats Threaten to Shutdown Government Rather than Deter Illegal Immigration"

Why do actual border patrol agents say that using the money to build the wall is not a good idea?

They don't. You are not fully informed.
