So if it is a nuclear device and they detonate it over a city,
what kind of damage radius are we talking about? Hiroshima sized? Bigger?

It turns due west and crosses the peninsula at low altitude: once over the Andaman Sea, it resumes a cruising altitude of 35,000 feet with sufficient fuel to reach central Somalia at standard cruising speed of 490 knots (560 mph).

The plane lands while it is still night in Somalia. There, it is refueled and al Qaeda secures its nuclear device in the cargo hold. At some point the 777 takes off for its intended target, which could be as far as the U.S. It once again flies “dark”: as it approaches the target, it contacts the country, stating that it has been hijacked, has passengers on board, is running out of fuel and must land. It is permitted to enter airspace, heads for the target city and detonates the bomb low over the city. "

I don't think the U.S. would give it permission to land here. The manifest only had 3 American citizens on board, and while we should care about the fate of those citizens, I wouldn't risk another 9/11 over 3 Americans.

Of the thousands of flights that come and go in the US every day, can't one falsify it's identity? Aooear to be a legitimate flight,, go unchallenged, and then blow up?

It is possible but not very likely. My dad is retired air traffic controller and he said yesterday that it is a easier to divert a flight that started here than to have an imposter flight in from overseas. Despite what happens in movies, it is not that easy to falsify clearance for a commercial airplane.

Yes wow scary . I guess an unindentified aircraft flying around would be just left alone to fly where it's wants. After all that's what happen on 911. All of our military would just look the other way. Sounds like a great plan.

Ha ha -- don't start!! I think the PTA moms commandeered the plane so they could finally get their chance to be the Queen Bee for a day on some deserted island. Or was it an island filled with desserts? No, that doesn't make sense, wait a minute....

If they truly think the plane landed in the Andaman Islands they wouldn't give the hijackers this kind of public notice to evacuate.

Now if they are telling the public to look west while they search east, that's another story.
