There's a Franklin Farm community guide circulating on this issue, with background, maps, and suggested comment language for the boundary tool, before the June 9 deadline. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1M0YRFvcrqJGlvu0g4dS2GzWpeUhQYqNNBmJxHEemib8

What do they want?

Keeping the Oak Hill section of Franklin Farm together (western Franklin Farm) through MS and HS. Scenario 2 has them split the HOA in half (per the comments above). Move the boundary line to Lees Corner Rd/Thompson Rd. to keep those neighbors together in their HOA.

Just curious, are they together now?

Everyone wants a cohesive pyramid for their kids, but its not doable for everyone.

Oak Hill ES all go to the same Ms and HS now, accept for the kids who choose Carson for AAP. The latest scenarios are the first time the school was split up on any scenario.

This is what happened with Crossfield as well. A handful of small neighborhoods who are currently Crossfield/Carson/Oakton communities were intentionally plucked away in scenario 2 and rezoned to Skyview. Similar to what is happening with Oak Hill/Franklin Farm, it’s nonsensical that FCPS would cherry pick a small segment of a current ES community and rezone them.

They did that with a section of Brookfield and a section of Bull Run for the various scenarios. Its not nonsensical. Someone has to get moved. There are many non-cohesive FCPS pyramids.

So, easy answer. Keep Chantilly Mews at Chantilly and let western Franklin Farm go to Skyview with their Oak Hill friends. Done.

Who are they moving to Westfield instead of Chantilly Mews? Walney Oaks?

How is this "done" when you need to find replacement students for Westfield? They don't have enough students with Chantilly Mews.

“Our kids are not just numbers.
They are future graduates, athletes, artists, and leaders whose success depends on stability and support.
They are part of a living, growing community — one that deserves consistency, care, and a voice in decisions that shape their future.”

They are so full of shit. -Crossfield parent who would rather go to the closer school.

Regardless of language on websites, let's be honest with ourselves: Proximity does not ALWAYS equal quality.

As a parent of an 8th grader at Carson, let me give you a preview of what Skyview will be like. It's going to look similar to the direction that Carson has been moving in for the past year. You'll have about a third of the kids there who are really committed to their studies and want to excel academically and participate in extracurriculars. Wonderful! The remaining student body will be bringing knives to school and reselling things they stole from Walmart. (No, these are not hypothetical happenings: These are two very real occurrences that happen at least once a month now at Carson. And this kind of activity has only gotten worse in the past 2 years.)

So ... sure. If that's the environment you want your child in for HS, go for it. Yes, ALL schools have unique challenges and none are immune from problems. And I have no doubt that Skyview will hire great staff. But be careful what you wish for when your top priority is attending the "closer school."

You do realize that all of Crossfield except a small part, already goes to Carson now right? If Crossfield is fine with Carson, which they are, and Skyview will be the same as Carson as you claim, they should be fine with Skyview.

Oh wait…something something rooted in a zip code 10 miles away something something.

The irony of the rooted in Oakton people is their lobbying to be sent to a “poorer” performing middle school (Franklin) which, let’s be honest, is masked by the fact that their AAP kids will stay at Carson anyway.

In summary, they got their entire school moved to a lower performing middle school, knowing their own kids would stay at the higher performing middle school, all to justify their weird obsession with a high school an hour from their house by bus.

I hope the school board sees right through that.

I have a third grader, a THIRD GRADER, who is already telling me that all of his friends in AAP will still go to Carson even though we're being rezoned to Franklin.

they are wrong. franklin will have AAP by 2030. they are in the last group of middle schools to implement. if your child isn’t in the first group at franklin required to stay for AAP it will be the grade after

The hyperbole in this post is sickening but perhaps inadvertently makes a strong case that Crossfield should be assigned to Skyview to provide these people with a reality check. I’m sure they think it’s fine to post such garbage because the Great Falls folks have been doing it for years, but enough is enough.

DP. Yeah, let’s upset the apple cart because somebody on an anonymous forum was slightly mean.

You gotta touch grass, karen. Devoting your time to actually trying to improve the school would pay more dividends, than just pearl clutching on DCUM.

Being slightly mean is one thing. Being totally full of crap is another.

No one in their right mind thinks that 2/3 of the kids at Carson are even misbehaving, much less coming to school with weapons or stolen goods. But that's how you freaks from Oakton and Langley routinely talk about kids that don't fit your preferred demographics.

You need a change of scenery, courtesy of the School Board.

You don’t want these disgruntled pro-Oakton parents at Skyview. They will just kill the positive vibes at the new school. They should just stay at their over crowded and over competitive school far away school. Then guess what, those kids will most likely end up at VT, UVA, W&M and JMU, as do most college bound fcps students.

Yeah pretty sure current third graders will be the first to go to Franklin and not have the option of Carson if Franklin is their base school. If the published implementation timeline is followed, of course. Are they soliciting community feedback on that or did they already vote on the plan? I personally welcome the change and hope it doesn’t get dragged out by some ridiculous input and meetings process. Just do what needs to be done for financial and transportation reasons.

Some of the most pro-Oakton parents don’t even have kids who can get in to the schools you listed. Their kids end up at big SEC schools or small no name colleges. That tells you it’s more about being around “the right kind of peers” than anything else for those people.

They need to find more kids for Westfield. If they keep that area at CHS (which I agree, they should), then they need to find more kids to move. Perhaps Seema Dixit's neighborhood, or the whiners in Walney Oaks.

So why again are they still going to high school in Oakton, the 5th closest high school to them?

Quoted from their website, which describes why 🤦🏻‍♀️

Exactly, you want people who want to be there. Let the Oakton folks go to Oakton and be happy there.

The problem is there are a lot of us right next door to them that don’t want to go to Oakton and would be happy staying at Carson and going to a local school. Hard to lump everyone together.

The only thing you can do is make sure you’re contacting school board members and trying to meet with them. It’s going to be hard to go against RIO, but you want to make sure your voice is already heard. Maybe there would be an option to pupil place?
