This is how the June Newsletter that Moon just sent out describes Crossfield:
Originally opened in 1988, Crossfield Elementary has long served generations of students and families in the Herndon and Reston communities.
So why again are they still going to high school in Oakton, the 5th closest high school to them?
Quoted from their website, which describes why 🤦🏻‍♀️ “Our kids are not just numbers. They are future graduates, athletes, artists, and leaders whose success depends on stability and support. They are part of a living, growing community — one that deserves consistency, care, and a voice in decisions that shape their future.”
They are so full of shit. -Crossfield parent who would rather go to the closer school.
Regardless of language on websites, let's be honest with ourselves: Proximity does not ALWAYS equal quality. As a parent of an 8th grader at Carson, let me give you a preview of what Skyview will be like. It's going to look similar to the direction that Carson has been moving in for the past year. You'll have about a third of the kids there who are really committed to their studies and want to excel academically and participate in extracurriculars. Wonderful! The remaining student body will be bringing knives to school and reselling things they stole from Walmart. (No, these are not hypothetical happenings: These are two very real occurrences that happen at least once a month now at Carson. And this kind of activity has only gotten worse in the past 2 years.) So ... sure. If that's the environment you want your child in for HS, go for it. Yes, ALL schools have unique challenges and none are immune from problems. And I have no doubt that Skyview will hire great staff. But be careful what you wish for when your top priority is attending the "closer school."
The hyperbole in this post is sickening but perhaps inadvertently makes a strong case that Crossfield should be assigned to Skyview to provide these people with a reality check. I’m sure they think it’s fine to post such garbage because the Great Falls folks have been doing it for years, but enough is enough.
DP. Yeah, let’s upset the apple cart because somebody on an anonymous forum was slightly mean. You gotta touch grass, karen. Devoting your time to actually trying to improve the school would pay more dividends, than just pearl clutching on DCUM.
Being slightly mean is one thing. Being totally full of crap is another. No one in their right mind thinks that 2/3 of the kids at Carson are even misbehaving, much less coming to school with weapons or stolen goods. But that's how you freaks from Oakton and Langley routinely talk about kids that don't fit your preferred demographics. You need a change of scenery, courtesy of the School Board.
You don’t want these disgruntled pro-Oakton parents at Skyview. They will just kill the positive vibes at the new school. They should just stay at their over crowded and over competitive school far away school. Then guess what, those kids will most likely end up at VT, UVA, W&M and JMU, as do most college bound fcps students.
Some of the most pro-Oakton parents don’t even have kids who can get in to the schools you listed. Their kids end up at big SEC schools or small no name colleges. That tells you it’s more about being around “the right kind of peers” than anything else for those people.
