We can all see that your sympathies lie with people who'd falsely claim that 2/3 of Carson students are coming to school with weapons or stolen goods. Just like your neighbors routinely claimed Herndon HS was a gang-ridden hellhole. You have no standing to lecture anyone about being selfish. |
Keeping the Oak Hill section of Franklin Farm together (western Franklin Farm) through MS and HS. Scenario 2 has them split the HOA in half (per the comments above). Move the boundary line to Lees Corner Rd/Thompson Rd. to keep those neighbors together in their HOA. |
I see a theme here: people want to keep their elementary school communities together! It shouldn’t be that difficult to do so, and frankly it just makes sense. |
Just curious, are they together now? Everyone wants a cohesive pyramid for their kids, but its not doable for everyone. |
Yes, they’re currently all together at Oak Hill, but it’s probably related to how they were told to “freeze walkers,” so the neighborhood that’s close to Franklin MS, south of Franklin farm dr. is moved away from the rest of Oak Hill ES for MS and HS in scenario 2. In Scenario 1 they stay with the rest of Oak Hill for MS and HS. You can look at the google map doc someone posted if you’re curious. |
Oak Hill ES all go to the same Ms and HS now, accept for the kids who choose Carson for AAP. The latest scenarios are the first time the school was split up on any scenario. |
This is what happened with Crossfield as well. A handful of small neighborhoods who are currently Crossfield/Carson/Oakton communities were intentionally plucked away in scenario 2 and rezoned to Skyview. Similar to what is happening with Oak Hill/Franklin Farm, it’s nonsensical that FCPS would cherry pick a small segment of a current ES community and rezone them. |
They did that with a section of Brookfield and a section of Bull Run for the various scenarios. Its not nonsensical. Someone has to get moved. There are many non-cohesive FCPS pyramids. |

I asked at one boundary meeting (not Skyview) why they couldn’t create and then adhere to a rule of thumb that they would not release to the public any boundary proposal that would solve one “problem” by creating another one, such as a new, lopsided split feeder.
It was met with a curt response that I could suggest that on a feedback form. But they continue to do this, and it always creates a lot of anxiety. |
They may need split feeders but they should at least look to avoid creating new split feeders that are lopsided (under 20% of the kids feeding to a school). |
Just an FYI for those unfamiliar with the area. This is NOT the Crossfield people. This is regarding the NEW suggestion of separating these kids from the rest of Oak Hill. FWIW: This part of Franklin Farm has been with Chantilly Highlands at Oak Hill for well over thirty years. This proposal not only separates them from Oak Hill cohort, but also the part of Franklin Farm that is across Franklin Farm Rd. This has nothing to do with Franklin Farm/Crossfield which is on the other side of the parkway. They have been separated ever since Crossfield opened--maybe even before that. |
That’s a great proposed rule, and I totally agree it should be followed, but the problem is there are no ways to solve these problems without creating problems that are similar in scale. The school board should’ve recognized this long ago, but they were too busy patting themselves on the back for the purchase. |
Solution: split Crossfield into equal Carson/Skyview and Hughes/SLHS groups. |
So, easy answer. Keep Chantilly Mews at Chantilly and let western Franklin Farm go to Skyview with their Oak Hill friends. Done. |
Replace IB with AP at SLHS. That lifts all SLHS boats. |
