Yet another GOP shutdown?

Is Johnson a Democrat?

Mike Johnson just gave a press conference addressing the assistance to the hurricane victims. You can find the video on any major news network.

I would take that as a sign that the Ds likely won in terms what ended up versus out.

What did the win? Looks to me like they had their fun, realized that their attacks on Musk and Trump weren’t landing and balked at shutting down the government. They did the same thing with the “laddered” CR earlier this year. They talked a good game and then eventually caved.

Man, I’m just going to let you continue being delusional.

The CR stripped out all of the Democrats nonsense and in exchange Trump didn’t get his debt ceiling increase. Only problem is that the debt ceiling request only came after they had a negotiated CR. So what did eventually pass was significantly better for Republicans.

Child Cancer Research is Democratic nonsense?

I have empathy and respect for cancer research but funding for it doesn’t belong in a bill to prevent a government shutdown. Those types of things should be in their own bill and stand on their own merit.

I can understand the Republican position that emergency funding for our farmers is a national security issue since if they can’t survive and need to sell off their land, it will be purchased by foreign entities and eventually we’ll lose control of our food supply which really is a problem. But even that should really have been in its own bill. I don’t think anyone would be dumb enough to vote to disrupt our nation’s food supply.

Democrats will never allow standalone bills, sadly.

Are you people bad at math? It's 219 R - 211 D. They don't need Democrats to pass ANYTHING. Republicans want a standalone bill? Have at it! Pass it with your majority.

Because the bigger the bill, the more opportunity corruption.

The “mandate” is ready and waiting. Is it not the all-powerful political dynamic being trumpeted here?

Yet that doesn’t matter because Democrats currently have the majority in the Senate. Ole Chuck would assure that would be DOA if it ever showed up on his desk.

The optics would be worth the effort imo.

Ole Chuck? He's only 74. That's a spring chicken relative to what out genius voters are willing to be duped into voting for.

No, honey, the REPUBLICANS control the House, where all appropriations must start and they waited on it. Even though Biden asked them to get to it sooner. Look, we even have Mike Johnson on the record.

https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2024/10/14/speaker-johnson-says-it-is--premature--to-call-congress-back-to-pass-more-funds-to-recovery-from-hurricanes-milton--helene

The Republican speaker noted that the short-term spending bill that Congress passed to keep the government funded through mid-December before leaving town last month included $20 billion in funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA. He made the case that the pot of money means additional funding “can wait” until Congress is scheduled to return after the November election.

FEMA and the Biden administration have said that the agency has enough funds to respond to the immediate needs of people on the ground following the storms. At the same time, Biden warned Congressional leaders in a letter earlier this month that the Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program, which he said is “often the largest source of Federal disaster recovery funds” for disaster survivors, was set to run out of funds “well before” lawmakers are set to return to Washington. The president spent much of last week calling on Johnson and Congress to “step up” in allocating more funds.

“The SBA is pretty right at the edge right now and I think the Congress should be coming back and moving on the emergency needs immediately,” Biden said last week. “And they’re gonna have to come back after the election as well. This is gonna be a long haul for total rebuilding.”

except the GOP hasn't and won't do 'regular order" to develop and pass bills, so I guess, screw the kids, right?

Democrats don't control the House. Stop blaming them for the shortcomings of the GOP.

Unfortunately there is only so much money. If we give extra money for cancer research, what do you want to cut by that much to pay for it?
