Or, if he helped the parents cheat and lie about their residence.

Coach has said publicly that he was investigated 17 times at Freedom, but never a negative outcome. Tells me he either really has been doing nothing wrong and was being targeted or is smart enough to have deniability and not do anything himself.

WHY would anyone hire a coach who had been investigated 17(!!!) times already? Thats just a problem child and a headache.

State championships.

What benefit does a state championship even bring a school? Do you get to keep the gate proceeds? I dont get it. Seems like this s-show was way more trouble than it was worth.

Hayfield hasn’t yet won a state championship in football in all of its existence. It is mostly for bragging rights. And the school would get to join the ranks of Annandale, Westfield, Centreville, W-L, etc., who have all won multiple state titles in football at one time or another in history.

If you don't win a state championship, how else will you hang around the high school in your 30's, 40's, and 50's still wearing your old letterman jacket? You need state for the credibility.

I mean sure, Fairfax isn't West Texas, but there's always a few of these guys everywhere.

The Hayfield gym could also then display the state football banner for all to see. Those look pretty sweet.

My first introduction to high school sports was as a 9 year old in Illinois. My mother scored tickets to the State basketball tournament, which in Illinois received fantastic TV ratings, with broadcasting in color relatively new. I saw how nuts people became over high school sports.

In any even. There was a kid d from Lockport on the Illinois River. He was the size of Willis Reed, but was an incredibly bad dude both on and off the court. He transferred to Aurora the next year,, a considerable drive from Lockport. His criminal troubles were supposed to preclude him from leaving Lockport, The high school crowd went nuts, with reporters and guys from other teams following him. This was one player.

How FCPS thought this Hayfield situation was going to go away astounds me. Reid must not understand athletics.. She should have delegated this to someone who did. This story will have a lot of legs.

And note that a number of kids will be treated shabbily here. It is not about the kids.Even the few D1 scholarship guys face an uncertain future (save for a guy in defense who apparently merits a four star rating). College football success is hardly predictable with a number of three stars not playing much.m

Postscript - immediately after high school the kid from Lockport was dead. His usefulness as an entertainment vehicle ended.m

Richmond Times Dispatch reporting post season 24 and 25 ban as of 3 hours ago— so multiple credible new sources and citing confirmed by VHSL.

Wtop also has an article on VHSL banning hayfield from the post season, but in typical wtop fashion it's a poorly written article so let me google the Richmond Dispatch article.

Where is the accountability for Michelle Reid? Surely she needs to be replaced for bumbling this situation so badly.

Someone said they thought the issue was not recruiting, but that had played academically ineligible players in Mt Vernon and other game. If that is case, would that be a forfeit of only those 2 games and then the post season ban- although not sure what that gets the school to not forfeit other games if they cannot play post?

Guessing whoever Chad Ricardo talked to was doubling down on what they wanted outcome to be and to say they did no wrong and ignoring that there was an actual ban letter from VHSL (which now confirmed by new sources that there was). Chad would have had better story if acknowledged the letter as no way it wasn’t coming out even if the appeal would have it go away.

If appeal is heard on Nov 4, how long before decision after that? Anyone know VHSL procedure?

Well that Chad guy is certainly not a serious reporter! No retraction or correction?

A two year post season ban for playing academically ineligible kids in a few
games? Unlikely. There are likely
multiple rule violations.

Rumor mill in a prior DCUM post from yesterday - NOT new source verified.

I think we'll all know Monday 4th of November whether or not Hayfield can play in the postseason or not. An appeal can't put the playoffs on hold. It's really rotten for the players if their season ends in a week, but the postseason must go on for the other schools.

This is all about recruiting. Inside sources are saying the VHSL has in their possession multiple texts and emails of Hayfield coaching staff members communicating with players from across the state and in others states about transferring to Hayfield.

Well they have players who attended schools in DC and MD so thats not surprising
