How do people who that don't eat carbs find happiness...

Anonymous
I finally began food journaling and choosing healthier options. In the month I've been trying I lost ten pounds of fluctuating weight. The better food decisions made an impact but I'm not necessarily eating an always healthy and lower carb way (Dr. recommended Paleo).

It's clear I need to cut down carbs. I lost a lot of weight seven years ago (20+ BMI points) and that made the difference.
But carbs make me SO happy.

Low carb people, How do you live life like this?

I'm not currently low carb, but when I am for long periods of time for dieting, I do one heavy carb day. I also allow one treat meal that may include some carbs.

Carbs are ok. Don't deprive yourself to the point of binging later. I eat carbs. But I eat them first thing in the morning. I also try to do healthy carbs such as oatmeal and whole grain pasta.

Are you talking about white bread and rice?

As someone on Keto right now, I live miserably, two or three months out of the year, so that I can eat and drink all the carbs I want the other 9-10 months.

Dieting isn't supposed to be fun or easy, but if you want the results you gotta put in the effort.

I am low carb/ whole 30 most of the time, getting my carbs from vegetables and fruit most of the times, but I eat the kinds of carbs you are talking about when I find that they are worthwhile. I am not going to eat grocery store bread, or crappy cereal.

If I am out at a restaurant and there is a pasta or risotto on the menu that sounds awesome and it is a restaurant that makes wonderful pasta, I will probably get it. or if the dessert is a delicious looking and sounding chocolate item, I will get it. If I take 1 bite and it doesn't live up to my expectation, I don't eat it.

I love Japanese sweet potatoes. If you are talking about pasta, bread and rice from store or mediocre restaurants, I don’t miss as much.

The only instance I would eat unhealthy carbs if I’m eating at a Michelin rated restaurant.

Oh sheesh, good habits are A LOT more effective when they are pleasant.

I am so glad I got into biking. I look FORWARD to that.

To OP

A. Find happiness from something other than food
B. Find happiness from the food groups you are allowed
C. Find a diet that works better for you than low carb.

Is this OP? You can eat bread. Find a diet that is not paleo. Try Weight Watchers, maybe.

And exercise, exercise, exercise.

+1 This is the key. Basically mindful eating. Eating clean as much as possible, but allowing yourself the stuff you truly love on occasion. I'm never not going to eat high-quality bakery items from time to time, but I work hard not to eat any processed stuff. I'd probably be 10 pounds lighter if I never ate another carb again, but I'd rather be happy. C'est la vie.

So how much do you lose on Keto in two or three months? Does it take 9 months to put back on the weight?

So does this 1) Derail your diet? do you keep losing weight?
2) Can you do the one day per week and then Stay carb free for 6 more days?

Agree, this is a good way to operate most of the time. For me an exception is if I'm going somewhere where I'll be in a bathing suit in public, in which case I'll be a little more strict during the week.

1) No, it keeps me on it. I look forward to the high carb day and treat meal so push on fairly low carb during the week. Yes, I keep losing weight because the other days I eat below my maintenance calories.

2) Sure, why not? I'm not keto, just lower carb, and not too strict about how staying under a certain amount. Just count calories to stay within a range and make sure to get adequate protein. The fat and carbs vary daily, but I find higher-fat and lower-carb to be more satiating. It's called flexible dieting.
