| Got a question for others on 2027 teams, our club has equal PT policy now that we are in showcase mode. Is this typical? We have an unbalanced teams, prob a few top-20 D1 players, some kids who are low D1 then some that may not even play D3, so it really leads to up and down games or even blown leads. |
Seems like more clubs are going this route. Capital plays like this as well. Probably less headaches for the coaches because they don’t have parents complaining about playing time if everyone plays equal. Agree that it’s tough to watch if you blow “winnable” games as a result. |
Big issue is goalies, they split 50/50, alternate start & 2nd half. One clearly much more capable than other. Big difference in halves there. I feel bad for both kids tbh. |
| My child loves the Capital equal playing time. Knows exactly when she’s going to play and plays her heart out and then cheers for her teammates when she’s not playing. Creates an environment where she genuinely wants the best for everyone. |
I like it more than I thought I would honestly. Just have to change your mindset from "Winning" games to having fun Win or Lose. There will be a harsh reality when they all get to college though and the goal is to win at all costs. |
I mean ideally, this is what you want, but not all teams have that depth, certainly don't have 90 plus kids trying out for them last summer. Our team is loaded with kids who either failed to develop or are hanging on, equal PT is tough to watch. |
Tough to watch for you - maybe - I’m sure those weaker players are getting better and your team will benefit as a whole down the road. Playing well as a team during sophomore summer is the goal - what happens freshman year does not matter. |
| I think it only works if there is not a talent drop off. Capital can do this because all players are good. Freshman year is tough because some players make it over others for reasons that don't make sense. They fix that after freshman year. |
Fair warning. The equal playing time at Capital gets reduced in summer tourneys as coaches try to figure out who will be staying with the team next year. |
Wrong. Never saw this happen once during all three years our DD played for Capital. It was always equal, often at the expense of winning close games but for the bigger goal of maximizing the number of team recruits. |
Our experience....in the Fall after Sept 1, certain uncommitte players did get marginally more playing time when over committed players when interested coaches are watching. |
Well, in theory, won't they determine who gets put in the top brackets for tournaments based on the previous season's performance and/or ranking? If that is the case, what happens freshman year does matter. I am also not coming from a place of knowledge, sincerely asking as I've been "told" this before, "you better get your kid on a better team or college scouts won't be watching their games". |
Sophomore year, I completely agree. But freshman year summer, I've seen less PT for girls at top and bottom of the roster as coaches try to figure out who will be there next year. To be fair, everyone plays every game. But in the last few tourneys, it becomes pretty clear who won't be on Blue next year. |
