Embarrassed by trashy in laws

Anonymous
So I don’t know how to say this. But I’m really embarrassed by my association with my in laws. They’re rowdy drunks; MIL has been thrown out of restaurants for being too drunk; husbands uncle was a porn photographer; MIL and FIL do not have college degrees; they’re so narrow minded and uneducated; they read conspiracy theories and think climate change is fake and education is for elitist snobs.

How the f*ck did I end up there?

You married into the Palin family?

You love your spouse? How did s/he not wind up the same as their parents?

Yeah I love my spouse. I’m realizing he’s not that different from them. He gets too drunk too and gets wobbly; thinks climate change is real and liberal arts degrees are useless.

Climate change is real. Some liberal arts degrees are useless.

I think you should be embarrassed. Denying science is pretty F-ing moronic.

I also get drunk and wobbly. I also think climate change is real! I also have a useless liberal arts degree!!!! Well, ok, I draw the line there, it was of use, just not to make big money.

I’d be embarrassed of my own judgmental attitude. What makes you so much better than them? Your beliefs may be different but that doesn’t make you absolutely right, and I’m sure you’re not perfect. Get down off your high horse.

Well you're the one who made the choice to marry a trashy guy from a trashy family...sounds kind of trashy to me!

BTW, my in-laws are maybe on par with yours but not my husband. I love my MIL though, but unfortunately never got to meet my FIL. He died after getting out of prison.

Are your in laws nice?

Mine aren't nice. They're trashy AND judgemental.

So what made you marry him? Your choice of DH is a reflection of you and your values. Or, is he attractive and/or make a lot of money and, in your shallowness, chose to overlook substance?

Surely you knew these things before getting married though

As they say, it takes one to know one... in this case marry one.

Yikes. I would have vetted him a little better before marrying, sorry to say.

You must have made a typo. Don’t you mean he believes climate change isn’t real, like his folks?
