Leagues and clubs are very clear, 8/1, best play up, grades aren't are thing to them but some will let players play up on lower teams with friends. Showcases go grade year, problem solved for college coaches who said they don't care what age group players play in.

It's over.

Showcases and high level tournaments will be based on aligning kids with their school grade. Will not matter for league play but will be something parents and kids need to discuss do I want to play with 10th graders for league but then go play with a different age group for showcases.

U19 next year incudes 07,08,09s so any 07 holdbacks or late starters can compete their senior year. Junior showcases will also follow a similar model so kids can compete with graduating class as long as they meet some type of age requirement.

This is nothing new.

u18/u19 is already a combined group.

Aug guy complains relentlessly about this, but guess what? Any Aug kid will be able to find a club to play on grade if need be. Will it be the level OR playing time they want? It depends how good their soccer is and being the youngest it'll have to be. If they aren't happy with the answer, they MAY find playing on age the better option for them. Either way, they are privileged to have options where 90-95% are going to the new age group with other summer birthdays misaligned having no options!

At top clubs August birthday options will be.

1. Play on your grade in school A team
2. Play on your grade in school B team
3. Play somewhere else

Thank god my September kid won’t have to deal with this level of crazy.

Playing outside of 12 month band is a bad decision no matter the reasoning.

That may be true for a few clubs -- mostly USYS, btw -- who have said they're doing that, but the vast majority who took the time to say what they're doing said they'll take things on a case-by-case basis. That's the reality.

We should be talking more about what's REALLY happening. You're second-favorite forum in NJ has a good thread there:

"MIleage may vary. But below is what I am seeing on my daughter's ECNL team. She is Q1 birthday. So I am viewing this from the perspective of a parent whose child may be impacted. They have had a number of girls consistently come in and practice with the team in order to tryout.
1) ECNL girls from older team will walk into starting positions on the younger team, unless they are competing with one another. It is not their size or skill, but the speed at which they play. They are clearly a year ahead in development.
2) ECRL girls from older team are having a tough time. You can see that there is real gap between NL and RL. The RL girls are physically mature. But their games are less sophisticated than even the younger NL girls.
3) Girls coming in from GA older teams and EDP teams. Some really gifted athletes from older non ECNL teams have come through who are faster and physical. The coach may see them as projected to be better than current girls. They aren't currently. But the talent is there.

All in all, I would say outside of older NL players there isn't a ton there to compete. Definitely not the RL girls. But there will be shakeup with the age change."

u18/19 typically always includes two age groups for example this year is 07/08s next year will involve 3 meaning 06s would still be competing this year if rules were the same as next year.

Too funny. You lose at every step of the way trying to make club grade year and now you say that clubs will put kids in double secret probation because of their grade that clubs don't even know or care about. When their announcements said the exact opposite.

Which top clubs? In DMV Bethesda, Arlington and other ECNL clubs said play on age, best get to play up. You seem the opposite of on the know when you go against what clubs posted.

Dang, you are even getting too discouraged to even include a pointless meme with you pointless statements now.

In fact many clubs would prefer kids to play on age if they will be the oldest. They will be the furthest developed and most mature generally. One or two in the central positions will anchor a team.

No reason to trust anyone here, just check your clubs announcement. ECNL and ECRL teams in DC area mentioned on web that age is everything and don't care about grades but a few will let players play up with friends on lower level teams.
