I’m getting nervous about school because of delta

Clearly the Region 4 leadership and Laura Jean Cohen are not nervous to be in a packed room in a school - unmasked even.

So looks like that's one bunch of people fully ready for a strong start on August 23.

Name the neighborhood covered in Youngkin signs.

God. What a moron, to post that.
Now the covid worriers will be freaking out that no one was masked.
And the no-maskers will be freaking out that the teachers could be mask free but not kids. Yikes.

Comparing low vaxxed / high case / non-masked Mississippi to Fairfax County is a fools errand.

We don't prepare for hurricanes like they do in Costal Florida, or prepare for snow storms like they do in Buffalo NY.

Common sense people!!

I agree. That’s what is amusing. They are not doing anything and aren’t wearing masks and don’t seem to have teachers speaking out. We are in a better place and have to wear masks and have some teachers who are super nervous and think we will be shut down after a month.

I am 100% for full time in person school and on the verge of becoming a republican if that doesn't happen.

That being said I don't get the whole "NO MASKS FOR OUR CHILDREN!!!" drama. There needs to be some compromise on both sides and some things just aren't worth fighting over. My five and six year olds have had absolutely no issues with masks during the limited in person schooling they had last year and during their summer camps these last few months.

Until kids are able to get Vaxxed I have no issue with masks for them. I also think FCPS employees should have mandatory Vax requirements and the teacher associations are once again showing their a$$ by fighting against this mandate.

It's not a hill I will die on, but everyone I know with kids who wear glasses has had mask struggles. This applies to people vehemently pro-mask and people more ambivalent. There are real struggles for some kids with masks.

Even my non-glasses wearers will fling off their masks at the first opportunity, despite not complaining much about them.

The people who triple down on "MY kids wear their masks happily, so everyone must be making up problems" need a little empathy.

I could have written your post word for word. I guess that's when I'm supposed to go beyond a "+1" with a "+100" or something.

Yeah, I'm pretty heartened by this picture. I care what the board/teachers think because that could mean something troublesome. I couldn't care less about the outrage that various whiny parents are trying to drum up.

Those are all administrators, I believe.

On Tuesday staff received an email that read:

As of Monday, August 2, all FCPS staff – both in offices and schools – are strongly encouraged to wear a mask at all times indoors:

FCPS is encouraging all staff who work in our offices to show solidarity with schools and wear your mask at all times when you are indoors – even if you are fully vaccinated.
We serve as role models for our students. This practice will help encourage them to follow the universal masking guidance at all times.
According to the CDC, there are instances of breakthrough cases in vaccinated individuals. Although vaccinated individuals are not becoming severely ill, they are able to transmit the infection to others.
We are aware that the Delta variant is seeing transmission rates rise in our area, and we are encouraging all staff to do their part.

+1000. I had to deal with some totally unnecessary quarantine drama last spring when my child was properly masked and if I can avoid something similar this fall by wearing a mask, I am all for it. I don’t want my kid to miss school due to some other student likely contracting COVID via their unvaccinated parents.

Quarantine drama is one of my big fears this fall as well. However I wish they'd just test contacts in school with a rapid test every morning - much more likely to keep kids in school and proven to be even better for reducing spread than quarantine.

LJC says the sky is blue, DCUM/Open screams that it was dark last night so how do you know?

As a HS teacher, I am not too worried about school this year because I assume most people will be vaccinated. I am worried about the little ones, though. I wish they would hurry up and develop and approve a vaccine for them.

The red dot on the far left, the one that's close to .0001? That's a little kids' risk of death from COVID 19. It's about that of a fully vaxxed 35 year old. I'm in my late 30s, my kids are ES age. Our risks of COVID death are the same. Don't worry about the kids - at least not when it comes to this. The high risk ones are in online campus, the rest just need school.
