Our family started in Mississippi today. No masks on anyone. Guess we will see what really happens in the next few weeks. The attitudes, fears, and worries between them and us is pretty crazy. It is like living in two different worlds completely.
Comparing low vaxxed / high case / non-masked Mississippi to Fairfax County is a fools errand. We don't prepare for hurricanes like they do in Costal Florida, or prepare for snow storms like they do in Buffalo NY. Common sense people!!
I agree. That’s what is amusing. They are not doing anything and aren’t wearing masks and don’t seem to have teachers speaking out. We are in a better place and have to wear masks and have some teachers who are super nervous and think we will be shut down after a month.
I am 100% for full time in person school and on the verge of becoming a republican if that doesn't happen. That being said I don't get the whole "NO MASKS FOR OUR CHILDREN!!!" drama. There needs to be some compromise on both sides and some things just aren't worth fighting over. My five and six year olds have had absolutely no issues with masks during the limited in person schooling they had last year and during their summer camps these last few months. Until kids are able to get Vaxxed I have no issue with masks for them. I also think FCPS employees should have mandatory Vax requirements and the teacher associations are once again showing their a$$ by fighting against this mandate.
I could have written your post word for word. I guess that's when I'm supposed to go beyond a "+1" with a "+100" or something.
+1000. I had to deal with some totally unnecessary quarantine drama last spring when my child was properly masked and if I can avoid something similar this fall by wearing a mask, I am all for it. I don’t want my kid to miss school due to some other student likely contracting COVID via their unvaccinated parents.
Quarantine drama is one of my big fears this fall as well. However I wish they'd just test contacts in school with a rapid test every morning - much more likely to keep kids in school and proven to be even better for reducing spread than quarantine. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-57930214
