World famous legal experts are members of WGCC. Any attempt to seize it through eminent domain would be a foolish waste of money. |
+1000. Posters worried about eminent domain are truly out of touch with the current political reality in Arlington. And to the poster that likes to bring every single conversation back to the ills of affordable housing, you know you sound ridiculous, right? By suggesting such insane things like the county might use eminent domain to build more AH, you have lost all credibility for raising the issue when it really matters. Just stop. |
Which golf course do you want to see nationalized, er, I mean eminent domain-ed? It’s all fun and games to wish for other people’s private property to be seized in the name of the “greater good” until they decide they want yours. I’m kidding of course, but use of eminent domain should only ever be used in very very necessary circumstances. |
Question- I’m thinking of a lot of our older buildings and I’m struggling to think of any assessable playground on school grounds. Is Fleet one of the k-5 life skills centers? I am sure as a cost savings measure APS would like all kids with needs described on that Fleet FB post to be in a life skills program rather than at a school without that program. But parents can decline. I believe Discovery has one of the elementary life skills programs and I bet they use the front playground as proof of accessibility. |

Fleet has the countywide communications program and also the countywide deaf and hard of hearing program. The student described is part of the communications program and much beloved at the school. He's a delightful young man. He communicates with a speech board -- very happy, smiley, performing in the annual talent show.
Fleet was designed to hold these two countywide programs, so the ADA deficits are even more appalling. |
That’s not an argument. It’s some odd form of status worship. |
Huh? It’s a fact. I have no interest in joining any country club, but I work with and live near many members of WGCC. You think they wouldn’t put up a legal challenge? |
World famous...in their own minds.
|
Um, ok. Point being that in an eminent domain battle between Arlington county and WGCC, WGCC could put up a formidable legal fight. But the whole idea of AC attempting to take that land is stupid anyway, so carry on. |
Principals have some discretion with use of some of their APS funds. It may be coming from that. PTAs should not be allowing discretionary funds for principals at all. They can set-aside some money for uses throughout the year; but should approve those uses on a case-by-case basis. |
I posted up thread— YES, it is coming from an aps source— there is a line item for every school of “other”. That’s partly a principals discretionary fund. |
Is that your WORLD FAMOUS opinion?
|
| ^ And I agree with you, just thought the WORLD FAMOUS description was hilarious. |
I don’t know them, so I can’t say. But I don’t see what being “world famous” has to do with it. Are you saying they would raise formidable legal challenges? |
NP here - not everyone in a wheelchair needs to be in a life skills class!!! Physical disabilities, and most other impairments, are completely different than the kind of severe developmental delays warranting placement in a life skills class. |
