Letter from Cancellor re moving schools - opps - I got caught moving my kid?

Anonymous
PP here, I’m also calling to ask for a copy of the SOPs for requesting a transfer. I’m interested in what steps must be taken before a transfer is granted.

It better align with the actions the Chancellor took; if not he should have been gone yesterday.

The kids at our EOTP dual-language school is driving my child insane.

Have you all thought about placards and pickets at your local school? You should have a decent school in walking distance. That's a right. I don't blame the teachers, I blame the big system that can't figure it out. Either fix the big system, or identify the troublemakers and ship them off to study tiogether so everyone else can learn in peace. We make it far to easy on these schools by taking our kids out.

When you’re not at your IB school, SOP for transfers is just to go to your IB. But the chancellor of DCPS doesn’t think his IB school is good enough for his children, just for yours, so he broke the rule that he wrote.

If he’s not fired it’s bwcause Bowser assumes she can win even with this albatross dragging her down.

There's nobody running against Bowser with a hope of winning. I was prepared to vote for Carl Racine and that was prior to the scandal de jour but he's not running.

Bowser really needs to get her administration in order. If I were her (and I'm assuming she didn't know about the Ellington - Wilson transfer*) I would be through the roof livid.

*I believe she did know/approve/recommend Ellington for the daughter but not the transfer out.

THE TEACHERS ARE FANTASTIC--THE KIDS ARE INCORRIGIBLE. DC HAS DEMONSTRATED BEHAVIOURS THAT NEVER BEFORE WERE PRESENT. WE HAVE BEEN AFRAID THAT DC IS GOING TO HURT HERSELF. SHE IS DESPONDENT AND HATES HER SCHOOL., IT IS AN IMMENSE STRUGGLE TO HELP DC AND WE ARE JUST HOLDING OUR BREATH WAITING FOR THE END OF THE YEAR TO COME SO WE CAN MOVE DC INTO HOPEFULLY A CHEAP PRIVATE-IF WE CAN GET IN AND IF WE CAN GET FINANCIAL AID. OH YEAH, AND WE ARE TRYING TO LOTTERY INTO MURCH, HEARST, OR LAFAYETTE---PROB WONT HAPPEN. AND THIS FUC&%ING IDIOT JUST BREAKS HIS OWN G---D RULES!!!! I DONT FEEL SORRY FOR HIM. HE NEEDS TO GO.

Not to take this off topic because I don’t want to do that, but if you are just trying to get out of your school sand across the park, try for eaton. I realize it doesn’t get you the deal feed, but it takes some kids at every compulsory grade, whereas the others take none or just one or two.

Thank you. I will add this to the list. I had no idea. I appreciate the note.

No problem, good luck, and I hope things get better.

Thanks and, as a previous poster suggested--maybe tongue and cheek--I am definitely going to contact the central office (and my Councilmember) about a change for DC. I will be sure to mention the Chancellor's move as precedent.

Chancellor Wilson has also thrown under the bus the staff whose job it is to say no to people like you. Not that they had an easy job before, but now it's impossible.

Sheesh. He just gets worse and worse. I can't decide if he is stupid, arrogant, delusional, or just plain doesn't give a shit.

At least Rhee had the smarts to have her ex husband rent an apartment IB for Oyster where her kids went to school while they all lived here. They figured it out pretty fast and there was still "principals' discretion" back in those days. So it can be done, easily.

Chancellor interview just aired on channel 4. This is even worse than I understood. He and his wife went to Niles in September of last year because daughter wasn’t adjusting well. Now I understand why posters are saying daughter was only in school for three weeks before the transfer conversation happened. This is horrible.

I feel badly for his daughter. I'm sure she's thrilled to have all of this aired on her behalf by her father. This will probably spark more mental health problems.

Is there a petition we can sign for his swift removal?

He knew or should have known he was getting special treatment. This wasn’t a “process” mistake. He knew Wilson is the highest performing traditional HS in the system. He knew there is a significant waitlist for Wilson HS. He knew Wilson HS was not his IB school. Yet, when the smoke cleared his kid gets into Wilson HS on short notice. And he does not think to question this incredible miracle? Its completely implausible.

I know it’s been said already but I still cannot get over why he would buy in NE with 3 school-aged kids. Even if he assumed his daughter would be okay at Wilson, what was his plan for his other two kids? He could’ve bought a gorgeous home in Shepherd Park for $1m (same as what he paid in NE).

What kills me is that he said he wanted input from his daughter on where she wanted to go and she choose Wilson HS. Sir, how did your daughter even know about Wilson? Did you guys even visit Dunbar?

Hopefully the IG report or whatever the Mayor has ordered for the investigation turns out he broke the law

However, he must go! How can you even trust this guy?

asking for the kid's school of choice in this case is nonsense.
yes, i would consider my teen's input about the AVAILABLE choices.
her available dcps choices were ellington and dunbar.
if she had lotteried into wilson and then chose it over ellington, fine, that is the kind of choice a teen can help make. but not to just pick any school you want and daddy will get you in.
doesnt work that way in dc anymore. because daddy made the new rules!!

Every interview I watch or listen of him makes me even more mad. He was on WHUR radio and refused to answer the host's questions directly.
Just kept saying how he is working so hard and trying to improve the schools and that has always been his life's mission and everything else is just a distraction.
He also started whining about how being chancellor means you have to sacrifice so much. He often gets home late and doesn't see his kids before they go to bed.
He said his family has had it rough because they have had to move around several times for his work. Are you kidding me? My husband travels and our kids often don't see him all week.
He doesn't even make as much as the Chancellor or have all the prestige that comes with that job. And how about taking responsibility for dragging your family everywhere. No one forced him to take this job. He could have said no and stayed in Oakland so his family did not have to move again. He also said again that he only did what any parent would have done. Take some responsibility for something Mr. Chancellor! Unbelievable. He should stop doing interviews as they make him look entitled and pathetic.

Have you seen the pics of the home he bought in N.E.? It’s Langdon, not Brookland, and screams nouveau-riche.
