Usha Vance - Fashion Thread

Yeah, the only people for whom mustard brown is affirmatively a good color is a certain type of redhead with very blue undertonesskin where the mustard can pull out the lowlights in the red hair and warm up the skin. For everyone else, it’s gojng to be one of your worst colors. I don’t even know why they sell it except that fashion designers often appear to largely hate women.

She really needs to just color her hair. She shouldn’t be that gray at 39. It ages her by decades. Easy fix. I get that she probably doesn’t want people calling her vain, but it’s always going to be something and it’ll make her look so much more elegant and her age.

Yep. That with the face full of wrinkles and the hypercolor melasma is so aging. It really is.

And I agree she looks pretty in jewel tones. She may feel safer in neutral.

Doesn't change what it is, though. You can shout down and insult posters here if you want, but people all over are still talking about it. A better use of the energy is just to get a stylist for formal appearances and do better.

All this frantic defense to make her feel better just makes her look more out of place and thin-skinned. Sad.

The only people insulting others are those who are calling her ugly and stupid, and those who are mocking anyone who dares to say she looks great (which she does). Maybe consider it is you who is grossly out of place for so vehemently criticizing someone who actually looks perfectly lovely. Don’t you have some seams of your own to obsess over?

Nobody called her stupid or ugly. They recommended she work with a stylist and a dermatologist. Both perfectly normal things to do as a person in the limelight like this. You’re taking this insanely personally. Why?

Earlier in the thread, someone (or multiple people) did indeed call her both ugly and stupid for not being styled in a way those posters deemed acceptable. Perhaps those comments have been deleted - I certainly hope so. Because she is definitely neither ugly nor stupid and seems happy and confident in all of her looks. Which she should be.

You’re welcome to make absurd criticisms of her, but please don’t think they deserve to go unchallenged. Many of us think she looked fabulous and will continue to say so.

I followed this thread from the beginning and this just didn’t happen. You’re obviously an incredibly political person and can’t participate in an objective discussion re her lack of style and general frump, so why bother?

I hate to call you a liar, but you are lying. Here ya go:

"Np and you must be completely blinded by your political goggles. Outfits alone, she looks unkempt, overwhelmed by clothes, silly and yes, ridiculous in white satin in January. It’s not winter white. It’s white silk. She looks stupid. And it’s too big, ill fitting and shows off her gray fly away hair and skin discoloration. She looks bad. She looks like she wondered into Nordstrom and grabbed a Vince dress off the rack that’s way too big and slapped on some concealer. Let’s get real here. I go to services at the cathedral all the time and the parents from the schools there look about 10000 times better than this on an average Tuesday."

There are several others like that but I'm not going to waste my time documenting them all. And I'm not an "incredibly political person" any more than anyone else here. If she truly looked awful (a la Kimberly Guilfoyle, etc.), that would be one thing. But anyone objective would acknowledge that the over-the-top criticism of her is coming from a purely partisan - and meanspirited place.

I have been popping into this thread although I didn't read it religiously. There were nasty toned posts calling her a pain jane and saying only white people would find her attractive.

What?! I didn’t see a post saying only white people would find her attractive. I did see a few posts calling her plain but that was in response to people insisting she was the most beautiful woman to walk the earth. And even so, saying someone is “plain” is not nasty!

The majority of posts in this thread have said she is pretty and thin but could benefit from a stylist. Why are you taking this so personally?

The poster above is a DP. You're talking to different people. As for you, absolutely no one has said the bolded. No one. Saying she looked beautiful really triggers you - the projection is off the charts. You're the one who is taking any positive comments about her incredibly personally. Why is that?

You do realize saying that she looks stupid is wildly different than saying that she is stupid, right?

Ignore all the naysayers. You looked fabulous and I look forward to watching you develop your own fashion identity and style while keeping up with the demands of your new role.

You are beyond delusional if you think someone whose husband was just inaugurated as Vice President of the United States is reading DCUM lmfao.

Is that why you’re so defensive of her? You want to be her friend?!

+1. DCUM is the last place she or her circle would be.

I didn't even mean it like her circle wouldn't be here, I just meant like...she's probably a little busy right now! This person is completely deranged if they actually think Usha has even five minutes to read DCUM right now.

The rabid defensiveness of this woman is strange. People say way meaner about Melania and Ivanka in the Trump women thread and no one pushes back?

My defense of her is not "rabid" and I
voted Biden/Harris. This is a beauty and fashion thread so I am trying to be an objective critic. I do think POC women are held to a higher standard and often targets.

+1
The PP is just positive there's only one person here defending Usha Vance. I don't care if someone dislikes the fashion, but there are several people here who are "rabidly" (to use the PP's word) tearing her apart, and for no reason. It's very obvious who is making a sincere comment about her fashion choices and who is on a personal vendetta.

Yep. No excuses for looking unpolished and messy.

That’s good, considering she didn’t/doesn’t. I’d love to see a photo of you.

Oh, I'm frumpy as hell. But game recognizes game (frump recognizes frump?).

There is no way I'd go in public like this at her level of notoriety, especially if I had her money and resources.

And miss me with "They aren't Trump wealthy!" He's a venture capitalist with a bestselling book he sold for movie rights and she's a big law partner. They aren't the podunk "Aw Shucks! We're just moving to DC to help folks like you!" couple from Cincinnati that they pretend to be. They don't even live in Cincinnati because Usha, salt of the earth that she is, said Ohio public schools weren't good enough for her kids. JD wrote an op-ed about this! They lived in Alexandria
before the Vice Presidency!

Is that why have such strong views on this? You feel you have to tone down the frump and here she is wearing it out without a thought and getting praise?

Bingo. That PP is one of the worst offenders here. So completely blinded by her politics that there's no way she would ever be objective.

So is she getting praise or are people being mean to her? Because you've claimed both.

JFC. You're not talking to the same person in every post.

Yeah, no, I'm an intelligent woman with a real job, not just being wife to some dude. I have to actually do things. The only things she had to do anymore sre the ones she is really bad at --- witness this thread.

Enough said. Bless your heart. I bet you're the same poster who can't contain her derision over Kate Middleton.

I am the one that poster was talking to and here are some things I recently said about Usha Vance in this thread:

1. I liked her pink coat just not on her because it didn't suit her coloring
2. I liked the cream church outfit
3. I thought she looked pretty in jewel tones

So, those are some things that I said. Please tell me how that isn't objective.

DP. Sure, when one of us gets an official White House headshot, have at it.

If I had Usha's money and resources and needed an official WH headshot, people would not even recognize me! I'd be lasered, peeled, and botoxed to beyond recognition (for me, personally, I wouldn't go full Trump), fresh highlights, professional makeup, a dress in the best possible color for me. If y'all knew me and then saw my WH headshot in this scenario you would be like "Who is that?"

THAT is the difference. If I go to my office in suburban Maryland with a few flyaways and in an ill-fitting dress, no one cares. If I am representing my husband's boss on the national stage, yes, you need to kill with your looks.

DP. She did have on professional makeup, obviously. It looked great. As for all the rest (lasered, botoxed, peeled??), spare us. You do you and she'll do her. I'm sorry you've been so very triggered by her very nice head shot. Hope you can get some rest tonight.

*Why* does she need to kill with her looks? I don’t think anyone has made the *why* clear.

Good question. It's very curious how upset the PP is about Usha Vance's fashion choices.

There are people on this thread who are mentally ill. Having a meltdown any time someone says anything other than 100% complimentary of Usha, assuming there is only one poster who doesn't like her, and accusing everyone of "projecting" or being "triggered." Very weird.

(And before anyone says I just don't like her, the only thing I said she needs done is a color analysis to help figure out which colors photograph best.)
