Hayfield Football Coach Fired

So if they cheated, as VHSL seems to have concluded, shouldn't their games be forfeits? It does affect the other teams as far as playoff standings.

Anonymous wrote:This is crazy at best, a lot of speculation about alot, one thing for certain two things for sure this is about jealousy and more politics, just at the HS level, what I’ve read is parents “thinking” their kid is owed playtime or a position in the team and probably in life, smh
Next, the fact that Overton beat up on these same schools while at Freedom and come to Hayfield and yes has a wider pool of talent to choose from should NOT be a shocker, but to “some” it is.
Hayfield should of had Overton years back but went other directions and pretty much the school sucked, parents took their kids who lived in the district and “payed” to private schools rather than let their kids play for subpar coaching. Am I saying HS sports are not designed for that, yes, but I’m also a realist and alot of these kids are good and this is their shot at college or whatever.

I’ve seen Overton coach in the youth league level and he didn’t allow team moms back then at 10-11 yrs old for that exact reason, parents thinking their kid is owed something because a parent did XYZ.

Plain and simple Overton has out coached alot of his peers and at his age they don’t like it, not only outcoached but beating the brakes off them in the process. Hayfield plays in a very very weak division so with REAL coaching is it or should it be surprising they beat teams the same way SOCO or Westfield’s or Chantilly and now Madison does, or is it another underlying issue folks really doesn’t wanna address

What does this unhinged rant have to do with the VHSL banning Hayfield for 2 years due to what must be incredibly serious violations?

What does this diatribe of speculation have to do with nothing more than jealousy potentially unproven allegations

Are you day-drinking, mourning the loss of the post season? Your posts make no sense.

No one is speculating: VHSL banned Hayfield for violating their rules. That's a fact.

Def need to be hell it is Friday, but yes they did so now folks have to wait and see, how it plays out. If he did wrong it only hurts the kids, if he’s not then this witch hunt needs to stop and apologies issued.

He seems to make a whole career out of hurting kids. So that tracks, unfortunately.

Did he hurt ur kid, it’s alot more parents butt hurt than kids, I’m sure the majority of this thread are parents of kids teams and probably coaches he done beat up on thru the years, looking for payback. Hell he put up 100 on my cousin squad, I wasn’t mad I laughed and said coach better.

Is this VHSL ban related to the pedophile coach who tried to do drugs with a child on the team?

Hayfield has strict boundaries and VERY limited transfer rules.

Why would he have a "wider pool of talent" at Hayfield than at Freedom? That's illogical.

Fairfax county has a wider pool of kids at whatever school than kids in Prince William County

I can't imagine that the VHSL would issue a two year ban on anything without solid evidence of rule breaking.

They have confirmed the ban was issued and that Hayfield is appealing but refused to comment on any details.

Um, no. There are not fewer kids in an entire county (Freedom, with open enrollment) as compared to the precise Hayfield FCPS geographic boundary.

I think pp means that Hayfield is an easier commuting location overall for kids who really
live in Maryland, DC, Arlington and Fredericksburg.

Reid held community meeting on August 27:

“Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Michelle Reid stepped in front of a community meeting in a theater at Hayfield Secondary School on Aug. 27 just after 6 p.m., and she cleared new head football Coach Darryl Overton and school officials of alleged recruiting violations in a scandal that has rocked the Alexandria school this year. “

From Fairfax Times, link at end:

“About 25 minutes into the meeting, Reid retook the microphone, moving up to the front row, near her chief counsel, John Foster, in spectacles and a suit and tie, and the Hayfield principal, Darin Thompson, in a suit and bow tie. Looking at the audience, she said, “I’m clear that, at this time, based on the reports I’ve seen, that Coach Overton has my full confidence – that our principal, Dr. Thompson, has my full confidence…,” football team parents breaking into applause.

“Until such time, until such time as there is evidence to the contrary, that full confidence will remain,” Reid continued.

Reid then abruptly closed the one-hour meeting in just 27 minutes and 40 seconds, announcing that she wouldn’t be taking any more questions publicly and instructing attendees to line up in an aisle in front of her to speak to her one-on-one.”

That's not a press conference and she refused to answer parent questions publicly.

Yeah I don't see why their games wouldn't be forfeits. I guess we will have to wait and see what the specific violations are.

I'm not a Reid hater like some of you but man did she screw up this one.

Yep, that’s what the post you are replying to says and sets it up to be interesting if VHSL goes against Hayfield. Since she qualified her support saying was “based on the reports I’ve seen” and “until such time as there is evidence to the contrary”- she was already preparing if more came to light. My guess is football parents and kids will take the fall and story will remain that coach knew nothing about any wrongdoings.

If the parents lied about the student's reaidence, then they should be held liable and assessed tuition. I believe it is around 19k.
