Bad dieting advice

Anonymous
Whats the worst piece of dieting/fitness advice you have ever received? I had a a trainer in the mid 90s during the low fat crave continuously recommend things like snack wells and crystal light! I also find the "trick" of brushing your teeth after dinner worthless. I have no issue eating after I brush my teeth/ spit out my gum/ finish my mint. LOL

Ha! Nor do I. Sometimes I think it makes me MORE hungry - like brushing my teeth is just cleaning my palate for the next treat.

And yes! The "fat is bad" advice. Probably why I still have a difficult time absorbing nutrients in food. And FAT IS FLAVOR ... it really is. Worst part, because I'm slim, people used to ask how I stayed that way ... I passed that same horrible "fat is evil" advice on to many, MANY people ... and to all of you, my apologies.

I never thought about it till this thread, but brushing teeth does stop me from eating. It might be because I hate brushing teeth.

Are you trying to bring out the body dysmorphic/eating disordered trolls? This is a great way to do this.

If you really want people not to be duped by unhealthy potentially dangerous habits, don't ask them to describe them.

You may have a point.

Okay, the WORST advice I ever got was to eat a balanced diet and exercise moderately...

The advice is bad because it didn't work. Eating disorders are an entirely different thing than fad dieting.

Whole30 and intermittent fasting are the new Snackwells low fat craze.

Not really.

Giuliana Rancic Published her dieting "tips" online. When it was pointed out they supported eating disorders, it was taken down and replaced with "healthy" meals she supposedly eats.

She blames being skinny on cancer drugs. She's been in remission for over 5 years. Yes, there's a disease at play. It's not cancer though.

Amen!!! I keep saying that over and over and over again on this thread, but all these women are convinced that intermittent fasting is the shit.

The paranoia about carbs. On what planet do you think a chicken breast puffed up from hormones (even without) is better for you than lentils? Or a sweet potato? Total upside down ridiculousness.

"Carbs" in the dieting world refer to bread, pastas, desserts, etc... People don't seem to understand that vegetables are healthy carbs and also a healthy source of protein. Oh well, more broccoli for me!

So ...the intermittent fasting thing is crap?

I don't think the fasting is crap if it works for you. But there's nothing really magical about except that you take in fewer calories.

People will come in here and say blood sugar insulin metabolism blah blah blah. But the truth is, you're just eating fewer calories but if it works for you, go for it
