As for other travel, it’s recommended to cease non essential travel not bc of danger to yourself but to avoid spreading. The more we can cut down on the movement of people the more we can try and slow this thing and buy some time.

But they NEEEED to GOOOOO.

Your point is correct and clear. But for most people, it’s blame everyone else in government and then go do what you want to do.

The only thing I HAVE to do is pick up my kid for spring college break. I will drive, go to quiet, out of the way rest stops, and hope like heck they kill the rest of the semester.

My guess is my husband in tech ends up working from home. At that point, I go stay with my sister near my kid until they kill the semester so I can get there fast. I’m betting the college closes early.
Mine isn’t coming home from UVA. The Dean of students wrote all parents and students three days ago urging all students not to fly overseas or go to places in the US with outbreaks per CDC suggestions and enclosed the CZdC guidelines. She has to work on her senior thesis anyhow. We may drive down to see her.

Are they keeping dorms open? My kid goes to a different university and dorms close for the major breaks.

An update: I am in Paris and in heaven. While flight was 75% full, Paris seems the same as ever and you wouldn’t know anything is going in the two days I’ve been here.

I’ll see what happens. I’ll take some sanitizer and paper goods with me in case we need to go to the Cape instead. Stores will have some food - we’ll make do for sure. He’ll be pissed but he will live.

Getting pissed at my own family here for not using sanitizer, washing hands, etc. This keeps up I”m bailing on all of them - they are all over 21 so SEE YA

And when I come back, I’ll bring it with me as a gift

For those cancelling spring break plans to crowded places - suggestions on alternative spots? Thinking of somewhere outdoorsy instead but within driving distance of DC so not national parks out west.

We may or may not drive to a SE beach, but more likely than not if we cancel our flying trip we will just stay home.

“Kill the semester?” So all the work the students have put in since January should be for naught?

Some schools going to online for remainder of semester.

Probably ok

Worried about flying though and being at the airport.

I know it sucks, but why not drive?

I think once you’re in Florida you’re fine, but I wouldn’t want to risk the plane ride and airport exposure.

Driving would require a hotel stay overnight and stops. And to be honest, I can’t take being in a car that long with my kids. I hope the airlines step up and offer refunds.

The New England Journal of Medicine has a good podcast on diagnosing and treating Covid-19 this week for any podcasters out there.

Sadly, they highlighted that the US did 1,000 tests last week and South Korea tested more than 15,000 a day.

They also mentioned that recent studies indicate that less than 50% of severe cases presented with a fever.

Well that’s a cause for concern!

. YES UVA is keeping all dorms open for spring break ( which is now). Call your college or university and see what their plans are.
